My dad and mom are 83 years and 77 years respectively. Last year Dad had a severe stroke that did not paralyze his body but took his mind instead. I moved back to my parents place last August to help Mom take care of Dad. Since then we have been able to take care of him reasonably well even though VA benefits were denied because we were not spending more than their income to take care of him. Yes, I know, it doesn't make sense to us either but that is the reason we were given by the VA rep for the denial of benefits. (Dad is a veteran of the US Air Force, active duty of three years during the Korean conflict.) About two months or so ago Mom started having severe pain in her hips, low back and upper legs, which has made it near impossible for her to do anything more than relax take care of herself. And, unfortunately, I am disabled to the point that I am unable to adequately assist in getting Dad showered/bathed adequately on a regular basis.

Well, enough of the sob story but I thought you may like a little bit of background before I presented this request. Due to the disabilities of my parents it is difficult at best, and actually unsafe for them to get into and out of the bathtub because of the rather high sides. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay for a complete bathroom makeover with a walk-in shower, so that it will be safer and easier for them to clean up adequately on a regular basis.

The cost for this makeover will be in the neighborhood of $7,000. (I have included a screenshot of the proposal sent to us by one of the contractors we had bid this project.) This is with us providing the vanity, sink and medicine cabinet. We currently have about $1,500 saved toward this project but need it done as soon as possible for their safety, and it would take about another two years to save up enough to pay for the project outright.

My intent is to raise enough funds by July 15, 2013, to pay for this makeover outright. I am asking for donations to help me raise $5,500.00 toward this end. Any donations above and beyond that goal will be used to purchase Ensure® for Dad, as that is all he consumes other than the occasional bottle of water, as well as be returned to this community through donations to help others fulfill their needs.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, whether it's $5.00 or $50.00, or even $100.00, or any amount you feel compelled to donate for this project. The numbers break down something like this:

If twenty-five people donate $100.00 each, one hundred people donate $25.00 each, and fifty people donate $10.00 each, then we will reach our goal within just a few days. Please consider helping my parents to be safe in their own bathroom.

Thank you.

Hello all,

Good morning. It's a beautiful day here in Flint, Michigan. Currently 79°F, mostly sunny, with a chance of showers this afternoon. But all that aside, we have our first two donors for this project. Thank you Gary and Merinda for your generosity! It is a big help to us in this project. Praise the LORD! This puts us 5.26% toward our goal of $2,850.00! We only need another $2,600.00 to cover the entire cost of the bathroom project. This is a lot of money when we look at it as a lump sum but when we break it down into small pieces it seems to go a lot quicker.

There is an old riddle that asks, "How do you eat an elephant?" You might be thinking, "Why would I want to eat an elephant?" Well, that's not really the point. The answer to the riddle is, One bite at a time. What this tells us is that if a whole bunch of people donated just $10.00 or $25.00, or whatever amount you can fit into your budget, the entire amount we are trying to raise will be covered in a shorter amount of time than if we relied on one or two people to complete the task.

So, if you can fit it into your budget, your donation will be just as appreciated as all the rest, no matter the amount. And, I will keep you posted on the progress.

Thank you for thinking of us and praying.

I know times are tough and funds are tight for most everybody, and can appreciate your desire to help and feeling like you are unable to do so. But if you can see your way clear to donate even $10.00 or $20.00, can you imagine the rapid growth of this campaign? Let's take another look at the numbers.

Number of donors....Donation Amount....Total Raised
100 $10.00 $1,000.00
100 $20.00 $2,000.00
100 $25.00 $2,500.00

I understand completely if you just can't find it in your budget to afford helping with this project but, if you cannot donate yourself, you can help in another way. Please consider sharing this page with your friends and family either through email, on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Google+, or any other social network you may be involved with. Any promotion will help us toward our goal, and I thank you ahead of time for your thoughts, prayers and assistance in whatever manner you participate.

Praise the Lord! We have had a better bid on this project! Instead of the nearly $7,000.00 price tag we had originally expected we have had a bid of less that $4,500.00! And due to this drop in cost we do not need to raise as much now. This makes things so much nicer, especially since the man who has bid this is also a fellow brother in Christ, which keeps the money "in the family," helping him and us out at the same time. Also, we have had another friend from church offer a financial gift offline to help out, for which we are extremely grateful.

So now instead of needing to raise $5,500.00, we need only to raise $2850.00! This makes it a good bit easier.

Also, as you can see I have uploaded some pictures of the bathroom the way it is right now, which will help you see what I'm talking about. The bathroom is rather small, the overall dimensions being 60" x 76", (5 ft. x 6 ft. 4 in.). All three pics are from the doorway into the bathroom.

I am trying to raise enough funds to redo my parents' bathroom with a walk-in shower instead of a high-sided bathtub so it will be safer for them. If we have 1,100 people each donate only $5.00 each, that will get us to our goal. If there are 550 people who will donate just $10.00 each, that will bring us to our goal even quicker. As you can see, there have been no donations hit yet but that is not an indication of failure, just a simple test of faith. I believe that God will move enough people to donate enough money to cover the entire cost of this project within the next week. Who'll be the first to post a donation? I will mention your name if you wish, just let me know with an email whether or not you wish to be mentioned by name when you donate.

Thank you in advance for your generosity! :)

The Lord has blessed me in ways that require me to share with others that which He has given me. This is a gift from the Lord. Use it well.
