Continually incorporating technology into today’s curriculum remains a significant challenge given our fast-paced and ever evolving world of technology coupled with the funding challenges facing our public schools. Student engagement in learning and working with varied technologies is a critical factor in creating tomorrow’s leaders/workforce. In order to provide our students with a technology-rich learning environment, Floris Elementary School is opening a STEAM lab (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in the Fall of 2016 and the Floris Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is seeking your financial support.
At Floris Elementary School, opening a STEAM Lab to augment an already powerful FCPS curriculum, we can prepare, support, and challenge our students to make a difference and change their world. Floris’ STEAM lab will build on our Project Based Learning approach by extending our science curriculum and using Engineering is Elementary (EIE) curriculum. This program focuses on developing engineers of every variety - challenging thinking, discussing problems, and more importantly, learning how to solve problems. In addition to the EIE program, students in grades 4-6 will continue and expand their participation in the science-rich JASON Project.
We believe that structured “play” is where students can really get creative. With a variety of computer science related tools, including, robots, Legos, and design and coding programs, students will be able to create, learn, and grow in a safe environment where ideas can flourish.
Please help us create a place where our students can learn on a personalized level by making a monetary donation today. We know this lab will be a student-enriching tool for us and further prepare our students for the 21st century workplace.
