We have received such a wonderful and overwhelming response after the sudden loss of talented bassist Steve Rodriguez this week.

His wife Jamie and son Jesse would like everyone to know how grateful they are for all the well wishes.

Steve's life was filled with love, laughter and music. He lit up any room he walked into with his charm and sense of humor, and the way he came over to give you a huge hug and a big kiss.

In his memory, we are hoping you will help contribute. Not only to help with expenses, but more importantly to start up his 15 year old son Jesse's college fund. Jesse has his father's good looks and charm.

Steve Poltz may have said it best:

"All I know is that when he showed up to one of my gigs with his lovely wife Jamie, it was like a holiday. Seriously. The level of energy went up in the room. Steve didn't just smile. His whole being was a huge smile as he navigated through the back bar at The Casbah or whatever dark bar place he was rocking. He was like a parade.

"It's really sad that he's gone. So many folks loved him. My heart goes out to his wife Jamie and their son Jesse. This isn't fair. Time doesn't wait. I want to say goodbye to him.

"This sucks. I want him alive. This community of San Diego is beautiful. We are lucky to know these rocknroll angels. They're in our midst and if we concentrate we can feel their energy. Steve was and is an angel. His death reverberates and ripples through our little scene and beyond. He'll be missed so much."

We can't bring Steve back, but it helps to know we're helping the future education of his beautiful son Jesse.

Any donations are welcome.

Full Sails and Fair Winds

It’s a bitter pill I have to swallow

You’ve left for a place I cannot follow you

It all seems so senseless

And I can’t find a reason

The answers just don’t seem to heed my call. Oh!

Fair winds and full sails, my smiling friend

I’ve known you in lives before

I’ll know you again

Though you’re gone from this life

This is not the end

Fair winds and full sails, my friend

The days we have are never guaranteed

The way you left I couldn’t have foreseen

Our lives changed without warning

Ripped apart with grief

Stumbling through emotional debris

Fair winds and full sails, my smiling friend

I’ve known you in lives before

I’ll know you again

Though you’re gone from this life

This is not the end

Fair winds and full sails, my friend

Life is fragile, life is fleeting

Love is what matters most

So listen close, this bears repeating

Forgive, don’t fight—love is what’s right

Forgive, don’t fight—love is what’s right

Forgive, don’t fight—love is what’s right

Forgive, don’t fight

LOVE!!!

Fair winds and full sails, my smiling friend

I’ve known you in lives before

I’ll know you again

Though you’re gone from this life

This is not the end

Fair winds and full sails, my friend

It's been probably 13 years since I last saw him, but at some really bad points in my life, Steve always had a smile and a kind word for me, and the music he made chased the darkness away, if only for the time he was on stage. What he created, what he was part of, made my life better and happier and more enriched and fulfilling. His art increased the joy in my life and I don't think there's anything better that can be said about someone than that.
