Mission Statement:
The Student Veteran Housing Program was established to ensure no student veteran attending a Higher educational Institute in Southern Illinois goes homeless or struggles with transitioning to college life.
Vision Statement:
To providing affordable and transitional housing to Veteran students while attending Higher Educational Institutes in Southern Illinois.
About us:
Southern Illinois is well known for its veteran friendly Higher Education Establishments that provides outstanding Student services to its veteran population. Each year more and more veterans find themselves coming to Southern Illinois for the great opportunities and resources that the region provides to not only to Student Veterans but the Veteran Population as a Whole.
In recent years with more and more student veterans arriving in Southern Illinois we have noticed a growing problem in regards to the needs of student veterans and off-campus housing options as well as trouble transitioning and finding other veterans to help with the transition.
We have noticed that Veterans that first come to Southern Illinois and have not received there GI bill benefits yet are becoming forced to live on the street and within their vehicles until they receive their first full GI Bill payment. First full GI Bill payments usually are not received until almost 2 months after the semester has started.
Seeing this need for transitional housing has caused us at the Southern Illinois Veterans Student Organization to start the Student Veteran Housing Program. We established this Program to provide Off-Campus housing opportunities for veterans struggling with the transition as well as creating a community house for veterans to know where to find other veterans that can help with the transitioning process.
