Fund SANE program at UA

The city of Tuscaloosa is home to over 36,000 college students. These students come to school expecting that the capstone will address their needs and protect them no matter what cost. It is an unfortunate reality though that some expenses are seen as unworthy of the University's time and money. Not On My Campus has been looking to fund a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program to deal with one of the most abhorrent injustices facing victims of sexual assault in Tuscaloosa. By funding this program, local nurses would be able to receive training so that nurses are able to treat victims of this dehumanizing crime. Currently, if someone were to seek out help, they may have to travel as far as Birmingham to receive proper care. This becomes increasingly difficult when a student doesn't have a car or is still in shock from an incident. This project has been proposed to the University numerous times and they have no interest in funding or supporting it themselves. This has been proposed not only by our organization but by the Rondini's, other SEC schools and nurses who are willing to take part in this incredibly important program. As it stands, we are the only SEC school without a SANE program and with no intention of starting one. Not On My Campus is excited to start this fund in association with a network of SANE nurses interested in starting this work as a non-profit so that each of these 36,000 students knows that at the end of the day, this behavior will not go overlooked and that we may provide what should be a basic human right during one of the darkest times imaginable.
