S.E.A.R.CH. Group fundraising

Friends, we are very excited to share the news that my wife Martie (with my full support) is starting a new group at the LGBT Center of Raleigh.  This project has a twofold purpose: 1.) To provide a playgroup for gender creative (and/or transgender) kids (ages 4-12), and 2.) To provide a parent/caregiver dialogue group.

We will also have a Facebook group that is open to members who complete a screening process, so that people from all over the world raising children like this can meet "virtually" for dialogue and resource sharing.

While we have found many resources for LGBT families with young children, LGBTQ teens and young adults, we have been unable to find anything locally that provides support for gender non-conforming children who may not yet be sexually identifying.

Now begins our journey to create our own resource. The wonderful and gracious folks at the LGBT Center of Raleigh are accomodating us by providing a safe meeting space at their facility, and together we are making this happen.

This playgroup/dialogue group program, named S.E.A.R.CH., (Safe Environment for the Acceptance of Rainbow CHildren),  is slated to start in Raleigh, NC, in July, 2016.  It is also our call to action in response to the horrific destruction that Governor McCrory has put into law with the passing of HB2 on March 23, 2016. These "rainbow children" exist, and they need a safe place for acceptance and celebration, where they can just play and chat as they wish, and not be judged based on gender stereotypes.

We have the passion and the drive to lead this area's first group servicing these kids, but lack the necessary startup funds for publicity, advertising, graphic design, website development and maintenance, potential off-site celebrations, and other start-up costs.

Your funding help would mean so much to us because we have personally experienced the many difficulties of raising a gender creative 10-year-old son,  and we want to make connections with other families raising gender creative, gender nonconforming, or transgender children to let them know they are not alone.

We will be extremely grateful for any donation. It would also help affirm your solidarity against HB2 in standing with and for this misunderstood population of children.
