We can't thank everyone enough for the support you've given to our family. Please join us at the Osceola Community Building in Evart on Saturday, January 12th at 3pm to Celebrate our dads life. http://www.coreyfuneralhome.com/obituary/richard-wood-jr Since starting the go fund me page $1255.00 has been donated and used to pay for medical expenses. Any donations will now be used to help pay for final arrangements. For those who would like to donate but don't want to use the gofundme link there will be donation envelopes at his Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday. On June 22nd 2017 his cancer fight began when he was diagnosed with inoperable advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (Liver Cancer).  We learned that treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, or a transplant were not options.   He started on a anticancer medication called Sorafenib,  this treatment was to make symptoms better and slow the growth of the cancer.   Our dad is a proud veteran of the Navy and  because of his time with the Navy he is able to get his medical care threw the VA and has a VA specialist who has been wonderful and has helped with any questions or concerns that have come up, but he also let us know that he could not give us a time line but to go home and try to enjoy what time we have.  And he has been enjoying his time whether it is seeing old friends, spending time with family or anything in between. At his last doctors visit in May the doctor told my dad that in the doctors 2 years treating patients at the VA that he has 20 patients on the anticancer medication and that our dad was the only one of his patient that has responded. Which makes him his star patient!  Unfortunately in June he had 2 non VA hospitalizations and 1 VA hospitalization. He is home and has hospice coming in, and for now until he is able to get stronger the anticancer medication has been stopped. Hospice has provided many items but there are still items that he would like to have that Hospice or the VA can not provide.  The funds donated will help him get those items, help pay for medical bills and help relieve some of the financial stresses.  And anyone who knows him can tell you that he is a huge Detroit Lions fan and he can tell you anything that you would want to know about the team.  His short term goal right now is to get stronger to be able to attend the Detroit Lions training camp in a couple weeks. He is fighting and getting stronger everyday, long term goal is that we are hoping that he is able to go back onto the anticancer medication, even though it is not a cure it does slow the growth of the tumors and gives us more time.
