Retired Sled Dogs

Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio I was aways fascinated by Balto of Nome serum run fame who spent his final days in Cleveland, little did I know at such a young age that his legacy would come full circle in my life.
I adopted Trouble, a retired sled dog, in May of 2015 and like Balto he started the next chapter of his life in Cleveland. Over the ensuing months we spent our time slowly growing together (and in most cases me learning more from him than he ever could from me). The things he's done in his life never cease to amaze me and his intuitiveness and sensitivity are awe inspiring. One night while watching a news story about a facility for retired race horses I realized that retired sled dogs deserve the same. Since adopting Trouble three other retirees have joined us, Piper, Jalapeno and his mom Polly.
Our vision is to foster a comfortable familiar environment for these amazing retired sled dogs in safe natural surroundings where they can enjoy their lives as part of a well adjusted pack. With plenty of activities from playing to exploring or just relaxing indoors and out. We've created a haven that allows these amazing dogs to thrive.
Recently many of the teachers I conduct school visits for, free of charge, have obtained donations from fellow educators, students and their families. It’s my mission to show others how much these amazing athletes love what they do and how incredible they are. Which prompted me to create this GoFundMe campaign allowing those compelled to contribute to my insanity a vehicle to do so.
That being said I’ve always felt awkward raising capitol and have done everything I can to keep this a self funded endeavor. The reality is there are far more retirees I’m willing to take on than money available to do so.
An enormous thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last three years. The retirees I’m so privileged to care for are priceless and they deserve the very best in their senior years.
