Help DISCBOTS Compete in FIRST FRC 2017 - 2018 Season

In 2015, an English as a Second Language (ESOL) teacher and a Mentor volunteer realized their Dekalb International Student Center students needed life and STEM technical skills beyond those taught in the classroom. Noting the effects on refugee children who were victims of violence, international discrimination, and interruptions in education due to prolonged statelessness, these inspired teachers sought to more quickly stabilize their teens. The DISCBOTS FRC Team 6023 was born, giving this highly unique group a place to express their curiosity and passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). With the singular requirement being “English only”, the students set off together to undertake their new challenge.

The DISCBOTS emerged as a unifying home base to 40 highly diverse DeKalb County, GA middle and high school students representing 15 countries and 35 languages across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South America. Despite the fact that these students represent at-risk families from the lowest poverty level, they banded together in 2016 to take two coveted FIRST awards: Rookie Inspiration and Highest Seeded Rookie Team.

We know these students will do amazing things in this, their third FIRST Robotics season. Please help them bring down the cost of robot building materials, food for students, and travel to regional and state competitions as they focus on building their team robot. No amount is too small -  the DISCBOTS thank you for your support!
