Hi everybody! My oldest son Jacob has gone to Parris Island, SC for USMC boot camp. He graduated high school last year and went to college for a semester and did well but realized that it wasn't a good fit for him at that time. He really wanted to join the Marines.
As his mom, that idea was and is really scary. We are a large family and are very close. Jacob is the oldest of six boys and has always been nearby, even when he went away to college. Jacob always made time to play with the little kids - throwing a football, playing basketball, organizing wiffle ball games in the cul-de-sac, and magically appearing when the little ones were upset. With this adventure, his time away is going to be very hard for all of us and thinking about the demands he is going through in boot camp just adds more knots to my stomach!
My husband is self employed and I am in my last semester of nursing school. With our situation and large family, we have lots of expenses and money is really tight. With Jacob going through such a major life challenge and being away so long with no communication home other than letters, it would mean the world to us if we could all be present and share his graduation experience becoming a new marine.
His brothers miss him so much. Max has a countdown of the days before we can see him and Leo has taken to sleeping with Jacob's pillow and blanket. I am creating this Go Fund Me in hopes to raise the funds to pay for the travel costs: van rental, fuel, hotel, and food so that our family can get down to South Carolina in May and be there to support him as he graduates. I can't tell you how much it would mean to be able to have us all there to see Jacob and let the boys see where he has been while he's been away.
