Send Rainier Beach Actors to State!

Last year, Rainier Beach High School thespians won the award for the Best Short Film made by a student in Washington.
It was a great achievement, made with few resources. But the filmmakers didn't get to take their film to nationals.
There was no money to send them.
This year, up 40 Rainier Beach Thespians would love to participate in the Washington State Thespian Festival at CWU in Ellensburg on March 16-18. They've got talent, drive, and passion to spare.
But they can't go—unless our community pitches in and shows some South End pride, and some South End compassion.
These young actors, writers, and directors need money to register, transportation to Ellensburg, and food and a place to stay while they're there.
As a small business in America's most diverse zip code, the 98118, we're super proud of our community—but angry about the fact that our local high school has far fewer resources than other Seattle Schools for arts participation—a part of school that can really change lives.
Rainier Beach is full of kids who struggle more than many. After-school practices, for instance, are a challenge when you have to go to work or head right home to care for siblings.
For many, participation in the statewide festival is their first exposure to a wider world of the arts, a way of opening their eyes to possibilities and showing them they are just as good as all those young thespians from Ballard, Mercer Island, Bellevue and other affluent communities—who have no problem sending their kids to state competitions.
Step up, South End.
If you've been looking for a way to make a difference since the election, this is it.
Make a difference in a young person's life. Let them be seen, let their voices be heard, and let them know that their lives—and their art—really matter.
