Our goal in creating this page is to get help with the costs associated in acquiring a Psychiatric Service Dog for Kyler.
Kyler is 11 years old, and has suffered with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and OCD traits (as a way of coping) since the age of 5. We have watched Kyler struggle with coping day to day and the toll it takes on his body. There are days when he will have 5+ panic attacks in a day or a mental breakdown that can last hours. Kyler has also suffered from Night Terrors for the past 6 years. For anyone who has witnessed one, you know how scary it can be. We are VERY PROUD of our Kyler as dealing with this sever anxiety has been very challenging and emotionally draining - However; no matter how hard the struggle, Kyler does not give up.
The cost of a Psychiatric Service Dog is $20,000+, as the dog will be trained specifically to Kyler’s needs. Some of the training will include:
DEEP TISSUE PRESSURE ~ the dog can use their body weight as pressure to Kyler’s lap and abdomen to help relieve any anxiety and to try to calm his nerves.
BOUNDARY CONTROL ~ the dog can create a safe environment for Kyler, by standing by him to gain him more space (in crowded environments.)
ALERT ~ the dog will sense an increase in Kyler’s anxiety level and try to guide and refocus him, or get Kyler out of a potential situation that can bring on an attack.
NIGHT TERRORS ~ the dog will be able to calm Kyler down before a night terror happens by licking and waking him up, giving deep tissue pressure and to hold him down from potential thrashing and give him a sense of calmness.
COMPANIONSHIP ~ the dog will give Kyler emotional support. Often a person with anxiety feels all alone. The dog will help him to not feel alone, and that he has a friend that will never let him down.
