Project River Run

Many of you who know me may know that I would not normally do things like this, but my furrbaby is in desperate need of help. River is my three year old lab mix. I rescued her from a neglectful situation when she was a puppy and I took her in as a foster. After a few months it was very clear that she was meant to be my baby and my little helper so I officially adopted her and then started training her as my service dog to assist with mobility and pain relief. However, over the last year she has been forced into retirement early due to a CCL injury to both knees. I couldn't afford the surgical repair, so I opted to try the less invasive treatment possible with extend crate rest and medications. She seemed to do well for some time but recently she has been in a significant amount of pain. She is struggling to walk, no longer runs or chases lures like she used, it is even difficult for her to climb up on to the bed at night for bedtime snuggles. If you know River, you know how hard this ordeal has been for her. She used to love to run and play with her friends at the dog park, go to her training classes, visit the local lure chase course, and teach her little brother new "tricks." Most of all she loved to help her mommy. It has been very difficult watching my baby go through so much pain and I would give her the world if I could. At this point I can give her pain management at her primary vets office, but she is in desperate need of a specialist who can do imaging and surgical intervention. If you have it in your heart to give a little to her veterinary care I would be so incredibly grateful. Every little bit given is one step closer to River being able to run again.
