Poppys MRI/Spinal tap for diagnosis

Poppy is a small Chihuahua who is the sweetest and most loving dog one could hope for. Unfortunately she is unable to enjoy life as she used to due to a spinal injury.
Poppy has recently and abruptly become partially paralyzed and is unable to stand, sit up, or walk. She is otherwise in good spirits, but she is so confused and crying all day as she doesn't want to go to the bathroom in her cage, she cannot stand up to go on a pad or outside. Her vet has given orders for strict cage rest to try and heal as we hope for the best, but she really needs to see the vetrinary neurologist. Unfortunetly (due to financial difficulty) we are unable to afford the cost of this as the first consult alone is over $200, then there is the MRI and x-ray costs, and not to mention a surgery that could be in the $3-5000 range alone. All we can do right now is keep her comfortable and hope for the best that she can get back to her old happy self. Poppy's vet has strongly recommended a trip to see the neurologist to further her diagnosis and treatment, thus we are seeking help to get the proper care for her so she can return to her life loving self. Anything is graciously appreciated!

Update 11/7/2017:
Poppy saw the neurologist today. They need to do an MRI $2700, spinal tap $900, and another blood test $200. Without these tests the neurologists best guess is Noninfectious Encephalitis. The treatment for this is Prednisone. Unfortunately he is not 100% sure about this diagnosis without testing If it is some sort of infection then the Prednisone could kill her as it is an Immunosuppressant and thus would speed up any infection she may have. However if we wait, then her condition could worsen to the point where treatment is not an option.
The only way to truly know is to get the tests done ASAP, otherwise Prednisone is the only option and will be a gamble on her life. :( I truly hate to ask, but she is such a wonderful dog. Any help is greatly appreciated!
