Hey guys, as ya'll likely already know, I'm transgender. What you may not know is that most health insurances, mine included, do not cover most medically necessary procedures for trans people.
I've not wanted to start a GoFundMe because I don't like the idea of asking others for money, but to be realistic there is no way I'll been able to save as much as I need and given the political state of American this is not something I can put off any longer, for any reason.
With the raised awareness of the existance of transgender people, and the extremely anti-LGBTQ future President, VP, House and Senate it's realistic to expect many, many anti-transgender bills to be passed in the next few years. I'm fearful I'll lose access to hormones and that laws blocking / hindering surgeries for trans people will be inacted before I can afford top surgery myself.
As an alternative, if you'd prefer to hire me for a photo session, or buy a gift card for a friend, please contact me personally and that money will go towards this $8,000 goal.
Please help me raise enough money to cover my expenses for top surgery.
What is Top Surgery?
It's a gender reassignment procedure for transmen that creates a masculine chest. For me personally, its a psychologically and socially necessary procedure. A surgeon will render me unconcious and remove some offensive defects from my body, to put it as plainly as possible. There are a few different types of top surgery, I'll be undergoing the double incision top surgery.
Why is Top Surgery Important?
I'm going to assume if you're reading this, then you're already familar with what being transgender really is. You know it's not about playing dress up, it's not a girl who just wants to be a boy, or a boy who wants to be a girl. You might not understand exactly what it is like to be transgender, but you understand how important transitioning is for the survival and sanity of a transperson.
I say all that to say that top surgery is vital to my survival on this planet. It is the next step in my transition, it's the next hurdle. I will never be able to explain how lonely, how terrifying, how painful it is to simply be transgender in this world. I can tell you, though, that this surgery is 100% necessary for me and by helping me access this procedure you are quite literally helping save my life.

I've had a consultation with an in-city surgeon who has preformed top surgeries on transmen for years. Everything is good to go, minus the whole money situation. Like I mentioned above, health insurance is useless in this department, so I get to raise the money myself. My costs are minimal due to being able to have the surgery in the same city I live in, I have a friend who will be able to cover my transportation needs and basically be my nurse during the week of recovery. I'll be using my PTO in order to take the necessary 7-10 days off work for the surgery and immidiate recovery needs, so the $8,000 I'm raising is all going to be handed over to my surgeon.
How Are You Raising Money?
I'm saving every penny I can from my job, but I typically live paycheck to paycheck and it's not a reliable way to raise thousands of dollars in any period of time.
I'm a photographer, growing a local wedding photography business. While I'm still at the point where 100% of my photography income is being invested back into my business. If you'd prefer to hire me for a portrait session or to buy a gift card for a friend, please contact me and I'll be able to use that additional photography income to reach this $8,000 goal.
Lastly, and most importantly, this GoFundMe campaign is intended to help raise as much money as possible. Many people will have an extra $5 or $10 they may not need at some point. Rarely does anyone in my social circles have a spare hundred or thousand dollars they can donate. If you can donate, please do. Every bit helps.
