On December 30, 2018, John B Son Sr., was placed into intensive care due to, what was later found to be, a very large cancerous tumor. At that time he was heavily sedated and placed on a breathing tube to secure his compromised airway. The tumor had started growing on the back of his tongue, and grown around his carotid artery and to his shoulder, crushing the artery by 90%.  We were told at that time that the best outcome may only buy him another year with his family. On January 4, he was transferred to the ICU unit at  Henry Ford Main Hospital in Detroit for specialized care. He has 4 adult children and 13 grandchildren. We are doing everything we can to give him more time with his grandbabies, but have been told to start planning for the worst. John has lived on disability for 26  years and has no assets to aid with expenses. At very least, we hope to raise money for his final expenses, but would feel extremely blessed to raise enough to give some relief to the family members for the expenses of constant travel back and forth to downtown Detroit, frequent days of missing work, as well as other expenses on the road or at the hospital. Thank you for taking the time to read his story. ♡

I have decided to pursue dads " Rick Simpson oil"
He has been obsessed with this for years and years.
As I'm sitting waiting for drs to tell which toxic treatment they think might possibly help dad, that we all know he wouldn't want.
its eating at me that I already know what he would want and haven't tried to look into it yet.
Even if he does nothing we all know this would be his choice for pain control over narcotics in his final days. So, I'm going ask everyone to help with research in obtaining some.
It's at least something that we CAN do to help dad.

Everyone just went to bed, now I'm chilling and processing the days events.

Adam and I went up to the hospital today. Mary Jane has asked to see grampa, so we brought her with us.

He cried and moved around alot as she hugged him. He opened his eyes several times, and it was obviously upsetting for him. I hate to see him upset but I was glad to see a reaction that tells us he's still in there.

Good news is that they are starting to wean him off the ventilator and hes doing well with that, despite having Ventilator Associated Pnemonia, and they were able to get him to track their hand with his eyes for a few minutes today.

The not great news is that the team decided not to start radiation today.
They are involving bigger specialists to evaluate everything and decide if radiation therapy has any chance of doing less harm than good. They will now meet on friday, and hopefully allow him to decide for himself.
