Help for Agape School's Girls

Donation protected

Menstrual Products are a Basic Necessity.

But they're not readily available to everyone. For girls at the Agape Baptist school in Eldoret, Kenya, facing your monthly cycle without adequate sanitary products can mean the difference between sickness and skipping school, or continuing on with your bright future.

We are team HelpAgapeGirls , a group of students and activists in San Francisco, California looking to end menstrual stigma and provide sanitary napkins and to girls close by and in the developing world.

Pads=Opportunity

  • We came into contact with Ms. Acclyte Nanjira, a teacher at the coed Agape Baptist School in Eldoret, requesting underwear and sanitary products for her students. With about 80 female students between the age of 8-16, the majority of Ms. Nanjira's students are of age to need pads for feminine protection, but many cannot afford them, instead needing to beg or barter for the money for sanitary pads, or reusing bits of mattress or cloth or leaves for protection. Sanitary pads are hard  to come by, and without underwear, pads are flimsy and nearly unusable. Many girls will end up dropping out and marrying into poverty instead of completing school. we are looking for seed money to support these students as soon as possible.
  • We are looking to supply the Agape students with cloth sanitary napkin kits, (cloth is preferable in this case because they are reusable, easy to sew and repair, more absorbent and comfortable than disposable pads,) distributed via Lunapads's One4Her program, partnered with AfriPads, and underwear in a variety of sizes, along with some disposable pads. We're hoping this can end the cycle of girls missing school, getting sick with infections, and dropping out.

We're Looking to Donate 120 Pad Kits, Underwear, and More.

Standard Pad kits include 3-5 pads, a pair of underwear, and a cloth bag to store pads.

We are looking to supplement the pad kit donations with underwear, enough to keep the girls in sufficient undergarments all month long.

  • $7000 will not only greatly help us achieve our goal of collecting and distributing 120 pad kits, as well as underwear, but it will also go toward community enrichment, supporting local charities and NGOs to ensure your help sustains itself.
  • For the purposes of supporting local businesses in Eldoret, and because our American funds will go further in Kenya, we are committed to community empowerment by funding local charities and outfitters in Eldoret to create sustainable solution.
  • Lastly, with your support, your donations will help the HelpAgapeGirls team become student members of the Society of Menstrual Cycle Research, helping not only to support the SMCR’s public health work, but to legitimize our efforts with larger  companies and charity organizations, and possibly reach more schools in need in the future.

The Importance of Your Donation.

Providing these girls with sanitary supplies and underwear ensures their desire to learn in school goes fulfilled. Every pad kit and underwear donation ensures these girls are in school as much as possible.

We are committed to getting Ms. Nanjira the girls of the Agape Baptist School exactly what they need, and not what we as Americans or as activists think they need. 100% of our donations will go toward getting these girls the help they need.

We are committed to transparency, keeping our supporters up to date about our progress at home and in Eldoret via this GoFundMe page and via our HelpAgapeGirls facebook page

We are committed to ending menstruation taboo and stigma.

We are committed to building a world where every girl can stay in school as long as possible. Where girls have access to education about and resources for their menstrual cycle.
