Pablo's Story:

My name is Pablo. I am a happy, energetic three-year-old Frenchie originally from Prague. My parents say I am foreign.  I love people and will do anything for a back scratch! I went through a scary situation this week.

A little over year ago, I started having noticable health issues. I kept getting ear and eye infections and my hair would shed abnormally. My parent took me to my vet, Dr. Osgood at the Delafield Small Animal Hospital here in Wisconsin to check it out. She ran a lot of tests & a complete spectrum allergy test. It showed that I have allergies to beef, duck, salmon potatoes, peas, corn, dust mites and some type of trees & grass. We began treatment for allergies.

Monday, October17th I woke up on throwing up. My daddy noticed the food I threw up wasn't digested. I kept throwing up the following day and couldn't eat. This is strange because I eat everything under the sun, even when I am feeling down. I would try to drink water but it would come back up instantly! After throwing up over 15 times, I went to see my vet.  I was severley dehydrated.

She ran tests and gave me IV fluids to rehydrate me. She initially diagnosed me with Leptospirosis and I was given antibiotics and sent home. I ate a little bit again when I came home and I thought I was okay.

The next morning, my vet called and said I am in a severe lifethreatning Metabolic Alkalosis & that I need to go to the emergency hospital for an ultra sound. My diagnosis was wrong and we needed to figure out what was happening a.s.a.p. Daddy took me to the hospital and they kept me overnight for monitoring. When they gave me the feeding tube, I wouldn't stop bleeding out of my nose. They realized I had a blood coagulation disease called Von Willibrand. They believed I ate something bad and had an obstruction in my tummy. I was scheduled for an endoscopy but due to my blood disease, they were not able to perform it there. I needed blood transfusions and a blood clotting factors that they did not have.

I was sent to the UW Vet Hospital ( which is an 1.5 hour drive) where Dr. Shivapour & Dr. Piazza took care of me. After many hours and more tests, the doctors could not make up their mind if there was something in my stomach. I threw up blood and it was scary. What they did know is that I couldn't wait long and needed surgery.

That evening, I underwent a risky surgery. Because of my blood disease, there was a high risk of me bleeding out when they cut into my tummy and intestines and a very high risk of postoperative complications. Mommy and daddy were scared, I could tell by their faces.

The surgery took over three hours. They found out I didn't have an obstruction but my tummy did a weird thing called a Gastric Torsion. They said I was hours away from my organs going into shock & organ failure because of the restricted blood flow and ultimately beginning to shut down. That’s not good. They also found out a stomach ulcer & that my stomach wall is thicker and bleeding so they took a biopsy to rule out cancers and other inflamatorry diseases. Now I am waiting for the results to come back.

On Monday, 24th of October, I was discharged from the hospital. I was given lots of medications, aggressive therapy and movement restrictions. I can't jump much or run for a few weeks. I don't know how that will go but my mommy and daddy need me to be a good boy.

Finally, the biopsy results came back. I have something called lymphocytic plasmacytic gastritis, which si a type of an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBS). Right now, I am being closley monitored for any complications, and the doctors said that I might need Immunesuppressants to control the IBS.

My next hospital visit on the 29th of November, with the Internal Medicine Department to figure out what is my treatment options.

The bills for the surgery and tests cost a lot. My parents have taken excellent care of me, and I would like your help to help my parents with this unexpected financial burden. They are a young married couple, just starting their life and are looking for some help frome everyone.  Any support will be very much appreciated. If you can't help financially, prayers and well wishes will do too!
