Expansion of Services

Tax deductible
Project Sister Family Services (PSFS) provides Crisis Intervention Services and Outreach Services to 27-cities in the East San Gabriel Valley and West San Bernardino County. Crisis Intervention Services consist of a 24-hour hotline, information and referrals, accompaniment program, counseling services and support groups. Outreach Services consist of community education and prevention education for teens, young adults, parents, seniors, and community partners, as well as self-defense classes.

This campaign has been launched to help PSFS reach their funding goals for the expansion of its services to survivors of sexual assault and children that are victims of child abuse (i.e. physical, neglect, emotional, and sexual), school based bullying, and witnesses to a crime (i.e. domestic violence, homicide, etc.).

We are requesting your immediate support in expanding our services. Your donation will help more individuals in need of services, such as the one in the story below.

Clinical Story From A Sexual Assault Counselor

“My client, a little 5-year old boy, tested me for what seemed like most of our sessions. His puppet always kicked, punched and screamed at my puppet during our many play sessions. I understood this aggression as having partly to do with trust. He needed to know that I was a trustable person that could care about him unconditionally.

His abuse was unthinkable. A family friend fondled and penetrated him while he screamed out in terror. What happened to him was beyond what his 5-year old mind could comprehend. However, what felt real for him was the anger, fear, and confusion that followed the abuse.

I was able to tolerate this child’s ‘acting out,’ knowing that the intense emotions that were emanating from him were a product of the trauma. I saw myself as the safe presence in his life where he could expel pent up, un-metabolized trauma to/with and experience me as being able to tolerate it and help him tolerate it as well.

Our play became more collaborative over sessions to come. His puppet was kinder to mine…I was no longer the enemy. I took this to mean that the world was feeling like a safer place to him as a result of our work together. Therapy helped my client experience a caring and safe relationship between child and adult.  A relationship where he would not be exploited or abused in any way.  Our work together helped him to internalize a new experience of a healthy, non-abusive relationship. This translates to so much in the healing process. “
