The Odyssey of the Mind team, MindMasters, from Penny Road Elementary in Cary, NC just won 2nd place in the Division 1- State level competition, on April 1st at A&T University! Only the top two teams move on to the World Competition at Michigan State University, May 24- 28.
The team is required to construct three structures, a balsa structure according to guidelines that can hold weight, as well as two other structures made from recycled materials, and then pull them together through performance that aligns with the theme. Teams have been working together on the weekends and during the week for months in preparation, and receive points for team work, creativity, the engineering design of the structure and the weight it holds, as well as their ability to solve their problem.
The MindMasters Team includes: Brower Evenhouse, Charlie Vickery, Brody Cox, Lindsey Whorton, Liam Taylor, Jordan Sides and Brady Rhodes, who are all either in the 4th or 5th grade at Penny Road Elementary.
Now that the team is going to World's, we will need to help raise the funds to get us there, and to help pay for lodging and food while staying on the Michigan State campus. The World competition experience will be an amazing one for these kids, with other teams from all over the world coming to compete. There will also be engineering booths such as NASA participating as well.
We will need to raise the funds by May 15th. Thank you in advance for helping these kids to have an amazing experience!
