Kenyan disability school sanitation

The students have no toilet block so we need to raise funds to build basic sanitation unitOne Student's success story - Millicent

In April, 2014 Millicent aged 12 years was rescued by neighbors and brought to Ojola small home. She had been detained and kept hidden for 12 years apparently by the parents. This, as happens in many such families, was to salvage the marriage of the mother. Remember that in many African communities having a handicap child has always been associated with bad omen and in most cases the blame has always been put on the mothers especially if the father’s side has never had any history of a handicap child.

After appeals for her support, we managed to take Millicent through counselling, enrolled her in school and she started the process of corrective surgery. She went through the process very well and today Millicent can stand upright and at least  be able to walk. Millicent has since been reconciled with the mother and it is so encouraging to see her going back home to be with her family during school holiday. She is indeed a WALKING miracle to those who knew her story before she could stand upright.
