Oakley's Paw Repair Surgery

I formed this page to help a special soul that came into my life a couple months ago.

This Is Oakley’s Story....

I’ve worked with the animal welfare group Gulf Shore Animal League in Bradenton, Florida for 13 years. In March I received a call from a lady asking for help with a cat that she had found living under her deck. Once I saw the cat, I noticed right away that he had trouble walking and discovered he had been declawed...horribly declawed. I have never in all my years seen a declaw surgery done this badly. He is flat-footed, has a sway back, arthritis, and is in severe pain as he struggles to walk. Oakley spends most of his day just sitting or lying down; if he's picked up he cries out in discomfort. It breaks my heart and angers me that someone could do this to him and then toss him to the curb; I want to cry every time I see him attempting to walk. I hope this barbaric practice is banned everywhere soon.

A friend told me about The Paw Project which led me to Dr. Vargas with Orchid Springs Animal Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida, one of only two vets in Florida who do Declaw Repair Surgery. After taking x-rays of Oakley's paws, Dr. Vargas discovered one of the worst butchered declaw surgery that she’s seen. Oakley has bone fragments in his paws that make him feel like he’s walking on glass, the tendons in his toes have contracted causing his toes to be curled up permanently, along with massive swelling in his wrists (from walking on them), constant pain and back problems. Dr Vargas is an angel, and wants to perform the correction surgery on Oakley to remove the bone fragments and release the tendons so his toes won't be curled any longer. She is very experienced, compassionate, and she believes he will be in much less pain and be able to walk more naturally after surgery. Without the surgery Dr. Vargas feels Oakley's pain will only get worse and he may not be able to walk one day. A heartbreaking thought for only a seven year old kitty. Through all of this, Oakley is still the sweetest, most even tempered and laid back cat; he's just a love.

So Oakley and I are asking for your help to raise money for his much needed paw repair surgery. Oakley has nothing to lose, but everything to gain!
Thank you so much from both of our hearts for contributing!
