The Pimenta Family
On Friday, September 2, 2016, Jennifer Pimenta took her son, Nicholas (5 years old) to NCH ER for abdominal pain and a fever. He had been having intermittent right sided abdominal pain for a week but developed a fever Friday night and was unable to keep food down. The hospital ran some blood tests, urinalysis, and a CT of his abdomen to rule out appendicitis. The ER physician came in and told Jennifer and Fabricio there was a tumor located in his right kidney.
Nicholas and Jen were transported to Chicago Lurie Children’s hospital by ambulance. Her parents and husband drove down to the hospital together. There were still a lot of questions to be answered. The night was restless for the family and friends close to Jen.
On Saturday the 3rd, Nicholas had additional testing to help the doctors get a treatment plan outlined.
He was diagnosed with a Stage III Wilms Tumor.
Wednesday the 7th, Nicholas underwent surgery to have his right kidney removed and a port placed for chemotherapy. The surgery went well.
They were discharged Monday the 12th.
Nicholas will undergo chemotherapy and radiation on an intermittent schedule for the next 7 months. Nicholas and the rest of the Pimenta family have a long road ahead of them.
This will be no doubt the hardest time in their lives. We ask that you come together in support of the Pimenta family.
