Neysha's Fight

Donation protected
Hi - we are so glad you're here! We are Alexis and Ivelisse Cardona and we have felt the call to raise money for our dear niece Neysha Miro-Cardona. Our goal is to help in some way with the monumental medical expenses her and her parents are facing after almost 6 long years and 11 brain surgeries (and counting).

Neysha’s a 20 year-old sweet, bright self-taught artist who expresses her thoughts, dreams and hardships through stories, poems, drawings and photography.  Colorful and whimsical ink renditions are her favorites.

Since she was 14, Neysha’s life has been deeply impacted by a condition known as Ideopathic Intracranial Hypertension. It also used to be known as Pseudotumor Cerebri. Intracranial hypertension (or IH) is the general term for the neurological disorder in which cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure within the skull is too high.

Neysha's IH is chronic. That means her increased cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure has risen and remains elevated. It seems to have no identifiable cause (which is why it's termed "ideopathic"), though in Neysha's case part of the cause seems to be that she has obstruction of CSF outflow through the exiting pathways from her brain. They are much too narrow - and her brain's ability to regulate pressure is practically non-existent.

It is frequently a life-long illness with significant physical, financial and emotional impact. This is the case so far with Neysha.

She suffers from severe, unrelenting pain in the form of headaches, which is generally unresponsive to even the strongest pain medication. Most days she can't even walk because every movement causes her extreme pain. She needs to lay flat on the floor, with no movement, no sound.

When she can get out and about, it's usually in a wheelchair...and she can't stay out long.

Many days her parents have to help her with with simple things like getting dressed or bathing.

IH also threatens her eyesight, due to to optic nerve swelling (papilledema), which is caused by high CSF pressure on the nerve and its blood supply. She has lost vision temporarily and often has rapidly changing visual symptoms or impairment.

On most days, even reading or watching TV is hard for more than a few seconds at a time, if at all. Imagine how hard that is on an artist like Neysha.

Some days - many days - she can't even speak, and she can literally hear the liquid swooshing in her ears. She'll communicate using the slightest hand signals.

This is why she has not been able to complete high school and didn't even finish 9th grade.

Her most recent surgery was a 7-hour long craniotomy to try to widen the space inside her head by literally shaving down her skull.

Not to mention the endless tests (including bolt monitors in the brain), procedures,  medications,  equipment, trips and hospital stays. The recuperation process of every surgery, test, and procedure is brutal.

Unable to complete her high school education and being mostly home-bound, she has invested her energy in developing her painting ability when able -  and learning Korean and Japanese!

Her love of God, family, music and art has sustained her these past six years.

It is her fervent wish to become a known artist and a published author.

Although your prayers are the most needed support for her health, if you have in your heart the desire for doing something more tangible, please feel free to donate whatever you wish.  Every single cent helps.

Neysha, her parents, and her whole family will be eternally grateful.

Thank you and God bless you for coming here and reading.
