Portable Electric Wheelchair For Ed

Donation protected

*THIS IS A SUPRISE FOR ED, DO NOT LET HIM KNOW*

This is a campaign to raise money for my good friend Ed Romaine, in hopes to buy him a new portable electric wheelchair.

Background on Ed - Ed has had cerebral palsy his whole life. This disease is a congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone, or posture. The disease gets progressively worse as you get older. With cerebral palsy, Ed’s muscles have random, painful spasms and hinders his ability to balance. Because of Ed’s condition, he requires the assistance of a walker or a wheel chair to get around. Ed is from Hooks, Texas (near Texarkana) and never had much money growing up.

When Ed was in middle school, he took up trombone and was told by one instructor that he would never be able to play it because of his condition. Ed ended up learning to play the trombone and played all throughout high school. Ed even went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in trombone performance from Henderson State University. He has always had a tough and hardworking spirit.

Ed has told me the story of how he hated God because He made him with this disease. He was bitter, and this only worsened when his grandparents (who were his primary caregivers at the time
) passed away. He was angry and resentful of his creator, but he had good friends who persistently invited him to church. He reluctantly went and heard Roy Ford preach a “fire and brimstone” style sermon that convicted Ed that he was a sinner in need of a savior. It was at that little church, Ed trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He came to understand that God had made him with cerebral palsy “so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” A few years later, Ed felt a burden to preach and to become a pastor.

Considering his call to ministry, Ed went on to Southwestern Seminary to receive a Master of Divinity in Biblical Languages and a Master of Theology in Preaching.  He is currently working on his Ph.D. on Charles Spurgeon at Midwestern
in Kansas City, Missouri. He has also been working in the Spurgeon Library to help publish the The Lost Sermons of C. H. Spurgeon. His entire goal is to pastor a church while working in a theological institution to train future ministers of the Gospel.

Despite Ed’s many obstacles, he has been zealous to do evangelism across the country from the streets of New York City to the corners of San Francisco. His heart is to see lost men and women saved by presenting to them the crucified savior and calling them to repentance. He preaches with a power that shakes most men to their core. His commitment to preaching and evangelism has been a glorious display of God’s power and a powerful source of conviction for me when I have felt complacent about my own witness.
The problem he faces when doing anything outside of his home, is travel. Ed currently has an electric wheelchair that he uses when at home, but he must use a manual wheelchair for anything else. This chair was also a gracious gift from a friend with a similar condition, but the chair is older, heavy, and very difficult to transport. This requires Ed to need more extensive assistance anytime he is not at home.

Anyone who has met Ed knows he is a joy and inspiration to be around. As friends, we have decided to start this campaign to raise money and surprise him with an electric portable light weight wheelchair. This would enable Ed to have independence at school, work, church, and on the streets when doing evangelism. The wheelchair cost $2500 and would be very difficult for Ed to afford. Please consider giving and sharing this campaign to help our friend Ed! Any money over this goal will be put towards other things to help ed. Thank you!
