A New Lease on Life for Mya Bowens

My name is LeToi Conner. I have started this GoFundMe Campaign for Mya Bowens, my best friend of 24 years. We met when we were 14 years old and almost instantly became inseparable. Mya's parents, Calvin and Joyce Valcour have three daughters and have always affectionately called me their fourth girl.

I'll never forget the day Mya received the shocking diagnosis that she had kindey disease at only 19 years old. Her doctors estimated that she would require kidney dialysis within 10 years and as predicted, by age 29 she did.

For the past 10 years Mya has managed her illness with a silent strength, grace, and dignity that leaves most who know her completely unaware of her 20 year battle with kidney disease and especially the reality of just how sick she has become. Her health has deteriorated. Mya has been most recently hospitalized due to infections that caused multiple surgeries for temporary relocation of her abdominal dialysis port and most recently, a new permanent port. In a few short months she lost 50 lbs.

Her need for a kidney transplant has taken a toll on her body as well as an emotional toll on her, her husband, their children, and family. This kidney transplant will significantly improve Mya's quality of life, but most importantly this transplant will save her life. My goal is to assist Mya in raising the money that would help her and her family financially offset the 20% that is not covered by her insurance for the surgery, the costly anti-rejection medications she will need as well as to help her family manage while Mya is unable to work.
