New Heart (and Kidney) for Mike

Born in 1986, Mike Hargett was diagnosed with hemophilia and needed brain surgery at two days old (which was likely when he also contracted hepatitis C). He’s had serious chronic and life-threatening medical issues his entire life. He’s dealt with painful joint bleeds, surgeries, hospitalizations, obesity, exorbitant medical bills, and the death of family and friends in the hemophilia community. And then he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in 2004, a heart condition that can lead to heart failure and death.
Mike received his perfect new heart at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles on May 9, 2016!
Yet his fight is not over. His failing heart took a toll on his kidneys and he now needs a kidney transplant. He's on dialysis 4 days a week and is looking for a live kidney donor so he can finally get the chance to live his life to the fullest!
In the past two and a half years, Mike has lost 250 pounds, was treated and cleared of the hepatitis C he contracted from a blood transfusion when he was 2 days old, and is the first person in the United States with hemophilia to receive a heart transplant! He is definitely a warrior!
This gofundme page's goal is to raise money for the Hargett/Hall family to help deal with these ongoing expenses by helping with lost wages, rental housing, food, basic living expenses , and other costs associated with his long-term medical care. We anticipate this will be short-term help until Mike and his mother can both go back to work, but in the meantime his family will need to raise $1,000 each month to meet their basic expenses.
