AKIRA's Van has Died: Happy Ending!

AKIRA is an established dog rescue charity in Spain’s Costa Blanca run by volunteers.  We are dedicated to finding a forever home for every dog.  Our Dog Rescue Van is essential for what we do, but now the faithful 19- year old Renault Express van that AKIRA has relied on is no longer roadworthy and has been scrapped.

We work very hard and very successfully to rehome lost and abandoned dogs in the Marina Alta area of the Costa Blanca, Spain. Last year our van was in constant use as we returned 128 lost dogs to their owners, rehomed 177 abandoned or maltreated dogs and organised 43 foster homes that looked after over 80 dogs.

So, you can see why we are desperate for a replacement van to work hard for us for in the years to come.

We cannot continue without our Dog Rescue Van, which is used every day.  For hygiene and legal reasons we cannot use volunteers’ vehicles, which is why we need a dedicated van to carry out our work.

Here are just some of the jobs we rely on the van for:

 - To respond to police and public requests to collect lost and abandoned dogs.
 - To take dogs to the local vet for routine and emergency treatments.
 - To provide transport for staff and volunteers plus dogs to off-site events.
 - To deliver dogs to prospective homes in Spain or to the nearest TRACES centre in preparation for adoption abroad.
 - To take dogs and volunteers for days out and local events.
 - To fetch and carry supplies, building materials, equipment, etc.
