Nickerson High School MADRIGALS

$1,330 of $45,000 goal

Raised by 11 people in 3 months
Did you know that Nickerson High School Madrigals will be performing at Carnegie Hall in June 2018, under the baton of composer/conductor Francisco Nuñez. Sr. Conductor Nuñez will be conducting the world premiere of a special commissioned work that he is writing for mass choir and orchestra, and 21 of our Madrigals students will be singing in that choir. The Nickerson Madrigals have to raise approximately $50,000.00 in order to participate.

In February 2017, the Nickerson Madrigals participated in a choral festival at Friends University, the group met composer/conductor Francisco Núñez (the founding director of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City), and that is how Nickerson Madrigals received a personal invitation from his assistant to be part of a mass choir at Carnegie Hall. That is something to be Kansas Proud of.

This is quite an honor for Nickerson's school district and community. With that high honor, of course, comes a substantial expense to get 21 NHS students, plus adult sponsors, to New York and back. The students in our district are largely from a lower socio-economic status bracket, and do not have the opportunity to travel to New York, for these types of events.  They will work hard to raise the funds, but they don’t all have the same kind of financial support from their families, that many students in premiere performing arts ensembles can rely on. That is why we are looking for you to help us spread the word and hopefully give a small financial commitment to help the choir be recognized nationwide in the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. The Nickerson Madrigals have already begun the fund-raising process and have several projects on the agenda throughout the school year. Including concert registration/participation fees, transportation, lodging, and meals, the cost per student is approximately $1700, The Nickerson Madrigals have to raise approximately $50,000.00 in order to participate.

Nickerson High School is one of only a very small number of Kansas schools that have been invited to sing in this choir, comprised of outstanding high school singers from across the United States. You have the opportunity to be part of an unforgettable experience for these students. Any financial support you provide would help make performing dreams come true. Our students will world-premiere a new composition with over 200 students and a professional New York symphony orchestra on stage at Carnegie Hall. They will get to experience Times Square, Central Park, the magic of Broadway, and possibly a visit to the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.
