SHIAWASSEE COUNTY TORNADO RELIEF

It is truly nothing short of a MIRACLE that my cousin Aaron Hinkley (Age 36) and his girlfriend Jessica Fate (Age 36) and her daughter Haylee (Age 8) survived the F-2 tornado that touched down on Newburg Road and Bancroft Road in Bancroft, MI on Thursday, March 14th 2019. Without any sirens and only a cell phone alert my cousin told me that he saw the tornado outside the window and immediately tried to get himself, Jessica, and Haylee to safety. Their home does not have a basement but there is a crawlspace that can be accessed in the garage. As the family headed for the garage by way of the kitchen it was too late. The living room ceiling started caving in and started to push the walls and furniture into the kitchen. He was not able to get the door to the garage open because the overhead garage door had been pushed into the garage on the other side of the door and all of the rubble was blocking the door from opening. My cousin Aaron covered Jessica and Haylee with his body until finally the tornado had passed and they were able to somehow climb out of the rubble.
Aaron's mother is my father's older sister. She is the only girl in a set of 6 children and 1 year older than my dad who is the youngest. We each have a sibling 3 years older than us and we were born close together also. The 4 of us grew up together. We went rollerskating together. We went to the movies, camping, friday night open swim, Mackinaw Island, our first Detroit Tigers game. There aren't many childhood memories that don't include him. He isn't just my cousin. He is my first best friend and he has always been there for me and still is today. I'm so very thankful that my cousin Aaron Hinkley and his family survived this terrifying tragedy.
The house is destroyed and they have a loooooong way to go before they will be back on their feet with their home rebuilt. Unfortunately he was underinsured and the cost of rebuilding the home is more than what the insurance will cover. That is why I'm asking anyone who is able to help for assistance with the cost of equipment and cost for the demolition of the home so we can begin rebuilding a home for his family as soon as possible.
