Donation protected
The Slye's Memorial & Recovery fund is to support a widow who was attacked by her husband's family.  She is in dire need of some support after discovering the murder of her husband and surviving a brutal and senseless attack by members of his family. She has until Monday, March 13, 2017, to make arrangments for her late husband.

Having to endure an unnecessary evil on top of an already tragic situation has been more than she can handle. Please read & share her story so we can #helpherheal! Thank you for your support!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this story. I am a longtime friend of the Slye's and have decided to start this fundraiser to help my best friend of 10 years during this crazy difficult time. I'm writing on behalf of her because she is not doing well after having to deal with so much chaos and tragedy.

I'm unable to share my name due to the nature of the circumstances of this tragedy, but I humbly ask that you please consider giving your support for her during this traumatic season.
Washington Post article regarding the murder

Nathan was not able to obtain life insurance since he was on disability. His widow needs help with funding immediately since all the costs fall on her. Any support would truly mean more than I can even express in words. After losing her baby and now her husband my best friend has been through too much.

I'm trying to support her so she doesn't lose hope and regains faith that there's still good in this world.
She's in so much pain and I know it will be hard for her to make it through this on her own. Any support would mean so much to me because she is facing many obstacles ahead and shouldn't have to deal with such an overwhelming financial burden during the worst time of her life. It's going to be a long road to recovery, but I just want to help her smile again.

Please pray for her & share her story. Thank you.

Nathan Slye Jr. was a 46-year-old born and raised in the Washington, DC metro area. He was a kind, funny, and selfless man with a big heart who loved to help others. The oldest of 4, he's always been a pillar of support for his family and his wife. After 6 years of dating, Nathan married his love in June of 2016. Shortly thereafter the couple received the good news that they would be expecting their first child in Jan 2017.

Tragically months into the pregnancy they suffered a miscarriage and lost their baby boy. Nathan remained a source of strength for his wife and continued to be optimistic that things would get better. He wanted to make his wive's dreams come true and help her expand her business, so he worked hard to support his wife, family, and loving puppy.

On the morning of March 3, 2017, the couple started the day like any other. They shared a loving embrace before she left for work and he left to go deposit the funding for the business expansion. The afternoon came and his wife tried to contact him with no answer. She tracked his whereabouts to a shocking scene in which she discovered her beloved husband Nathan was robbed, shot, and killed. The shooting happened in District Heights, Maryland. There is no clear motive or suspects at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
As the next of kin, she was tasked with bringing the devastating news to his family. We went that evening to Washington, DC to inform them of the sudden and tragic loss. After breaking the horrible news we stayed to help console his family and try to answer any questions we could. We did our best to answer questions even though we were still in shock and grieving as well.

After an hour his siblings came back under the influence of PCP and alcohol and suddenly and completely unprovoked became very irate. They told us to leave and as we exited the apartment they began to viciously attack us.

We were punched and kicked as we tried to get down 3 flights of stairs. Once at the bottom we continued to fight to escape. I managed to make it out the front door when I turned around because I did not see her with me. In horror, I looked back and saw that they still had her by her hair on the ground stomping and kicking her. They physically pulled out the entire middle section of her hair.

I ran back to help her and upon opening the door I was repeatedly punched in my face and mouth by his siblings. Miraculously, I was able to drag her out the door and we made it out of the building by falling down the cement stoop to the concrete below. I got up to run but saw that she was injured so I had to drag her to her feet as we continued to flee for our lives.

We pleaded with them to stop but his brothers continued to chase us demanding the keys as we barely made it inside the vehicle. They surrounded both sides and tried to pull us out. I managed to get the keys in the ignition and start the car while I was being punched again in the face. She was struggling to stay in the car so I had to move. He reached in and tried to grab the keys and my purse as I fled down the street in reverse.

We were able to make it away from the scene where we called for police and medical attention. She suffered multiple contusions and injuries as a result of this horrific attack. We are very thankful to be alive.

Nathan was a good man with a huge heart and did not deserve to be robbed of his life and then have his beloved wife attacked by his family. He was the head of the household and main support to his wife, puppy, and family. She is a small business owner of a hair salon and she will be unable to work in the upcoming weeks/months.

She is now left with the excruciating task of preparing the funeral while attempting to recover from her physical injuries. The physical trauma added to an already emotional situation has been very upsetting and disheartening for her.

Any amount that you can donate to help alleviate the financial pressure that she will experience would be greatly appreciated.  No amount is too small. If you're unable to help financially please like and share this story.

All donations will be used for expenses regarding funeral costs, end of life expenses, medical/ dental bills stemming from the attack, moving/relocation costs, and for her bills and expenses in the upcoming months. She is forever grateful for any love and support that you can give.

Thank you for reading her story and I ask that you continue to pray for her on this long journey to recovery. Thank you for your support!
