The Moritz Family Help us raise $25,000
In April, Dan had a colonoscopy after visiting the doctor for other symptoms. It was a shock to hear that he was diagnosed with Stage 3B Rectal Cancer. Suddenly, Dan and Lynn were visiting doctors across the region to find the best treatment available. They decided on Penn Medicine in Philadelphia and Valley Forge. Quickly, Dan began a 5 week radiation and chemotherapy treatment. The radiation had side effects such as skin burns and nausea, but Dan was strong and made it through in good shape. The next step is a major surgery called an Abdominoperineal Resection. This will require a week long hospital stay and a month-long recovery at home. It will also leave Dan having to live with a permanent colostomy. Another round of radiation treatment will follow surgery and will last several months.
Dan has been unemployed for this entire year. The family has a number of bills that have gone unpaid and have been in jeopardy of losing their home and having utilities shut off. Once chemo/radiation treatment concluded, Dan continued to search for a new job. However, his doctors have advised him to focus on healing for his impending surgery.
Once he has healed from surgery, Dan is looking forward to continuing his career in IT or Customer Service Management. However, he is open to all employment opportunities. His focus is on getting healthy and getting back to work to support his family.
Dan was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Dan and his wife Lynn have been married for 15 years and live in Limerick PA. Dan and Lynn have two children Sami (11) and Tom (13).
