Missy's Fight Against Leukemia Fund

Donation protected
To all of the #MissyStrong supporters - Missy's fight is not yet over and we are looking to rally behind her once again while she battles this recent relapse with Leukemia.

Missy found out late last week that her cancer has returned.  On Monday her doctors revealed their treatment plan, which will include a trial treatment with two different oral chemotherapy medications.  Missy will need to make trips back and forth to Mass. General Hospital twice a week over the next 5 weeks as part of her plan.

We are hopeful and optimistic that this trial treatment will kick her Leukemia back into remission.  From what I have been told, these drugs have a 30% success rate.  This number may not sound as high as we would like but we have all witnessed Missy tackle tougher statistics then this!

Right now we are looking to raise some additional funds to offer financial support to Missy and her family during treatment and recovery.  Once again, Missy will be facing added expenses and a prolonged loss of income.  The amount of support we were able to provide thorough this campaign last year was instrumental in relieving some of the extra stress in her life.  I can only hope this small gesture can provide the same level of relief this time around, so her family can focus on the emotional and physical support Missy needs as they face tough times ahead.

Any amount of help is greatly appreciated no matter how small.  We are also looking for volunteers that can assist with bringing Missy to her appointments at Mass General in Boston, and/or anyone that can stay with her three children while Jose brings her.  Most importantly, please continue to send Missy encouragement and positive energy!

I will update again as I get more information

Melissa Smith is a funny, kind-hearted and loyal friend/sister/daughter/mother.  If you know Missy you would have to agree that she has a true passion for making everyone around her laugh.  She has devoted her time to caring for others and is the first one to help a person in need.

Unfortunately we received some unimaginable news yesterday.  Missy has been diagnosed with a cancer of the blood and bone marrow called Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  She began Chemotherapy this morning and will have a bone marrow biopsy to determine the exact type, etc.

We don't know much at this point, but we do know that Missy has a long journey in front of her.
Many of you have asked how you can help through this difficult time.  We have set up this GoFundMe account to help her and her family while she undergoes treatment.  Your kind donations will provide support with the care of her three small children, unexpected medical bills and lost wages so that Missy can receive the best possible treatments without worrying about the financial burdens.

The love and support behind Missy is very strong.   Continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  Keep sending her your love and positive energy.  Thank you so much for your generous donations.  Each little bit helps.  Together we can help her beat this.  #MissyStrong!
