Miss Crescent City New Orleans

Hello,

My name is April Nelson and I am the current Miss Crescent City New Orleans. I have the honor of representing New Orleans at Miss Louisiana 2015 in Monroe, Louisiana.

During my reign, I have been serving as a volunteer ambassador promoting my platform of I.O.U. ( improving others through U) through volunteerism throughout South Louisiana. I have been focusing a majority of my efforts on the youth and have implemented my programs in many schools and community organizations throughout the state to get children to realize the necessity of community service and to connect in a fun and exciting way to service through my pay it forward method of I.O.U.

Not only have I been promoting my platform of service, but I have been serving as well. I have volunteered with numerous organizations including: Habitat for Humanity, New Orleans Soup Kitchens, Ozanim Inn, the Samaritan Center, French Quater Festival, St. Jude's, the American Cancer Society, Volunteers of America, A Child's Wish, local schools, and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to name a few. It is my belief that the best way to teach children, and adults alike, is to lead by example. Servant leadership has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old and I will continue to promote this vital action for the rest of my life, with or without a crown on my head.

I am currently in the final stages of preparation for Miss Louisiana where I will compete in interview, swimsuit, evening gown, onstage question and talent ( my favorite part). I am a recent graduate of Oklahoma City University with a BM in Musical Theatre and have been spending my year in Louisiana performing  all over the state, but especially in New Orleans. In fact, I will be starring in Le Petit Theatre's "Merrily We Roll Along" in the historic French quarter, opening later this month.

My talent for Miss Louisiana this year will be just that, a musical theatre performance of the Sound of Music classic "Climb Every Mountain". I am so excited to be performing this song for the 50th anniversary of one of my all time favorite films. Aside from my talent, I have been preparing for interview with mock interview sessions and training that has given me the confidence to take the panel by storm and present myself with the utmost poise and passion and a relatable spirit. I have been very blessed to be afforded the opportunity to work out and prepare at the finest gym in Louisiana, Franco's Athletic Club. With their sponsorship I am able to be in the best possible shape I could hope for in order to present a healthy and fit lifestyle in the swimsuit competition. ( Not to mention the fact that I just completed my first Half Marathon, as well). And I will be ready to share my true personality when I walk across that stage in my beautiful evening gown. I am truly ready to be the next Miss Louisiana and ready to represent this state at Miss America.

This is is where you, my dear friends, come in. As a performer, I do not have all of the means necessary to finance everything that goes in to making me the best possible contestant at Miss Louisiana. I need your help to finish out my preparation and to send me on to be the next Miss Louisiana in June. I am collecting funds to help me realize my goal of becoming Miss Louisiana. Any little bit helps, but know that your support means the World to me and I appreciate your generosity and kindness.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read a little bit about me and thank you again for your support.

With Love,
April Nelson
