Living with kidney failure is like a half life situation you are just existing in the space between life and death it is not a life at all.

Each day is a battle to just function let alone achieve anything of significance.
Miriam has one hope and that is a kidney transplant.
The transplant operation and hospital stay itself are free but unfortunately we have to cover the costs of living away from home for up to and maybe longer than 3 months depending on the success of the operation.

Asking for money or help is never an easy thing to do but sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where there is no other option.
Miriam could get the call at any time for her new kidney she has been told to be prepared both mentally, physically and financially for this event at a moments notice.
If the call were to come tonight or in the next few months or even years we would not be able to say with full confidence that we are prepared.
It would be irresponsible of us to accept a kidney when we are not prepared financially to stay in Brisbane the required time for recovery we just couldn't do it.
The last thing Miriam needs to stress about while recovering from a transplant is financial issues and debt collectors chasing unpaid bills and loans.
Miriam deserves the best chance at life please share this fundraiser as much as possible so we can start to plan for this life changing operation.

This photo is of Miriam & her partner Campbell holding a dialysis bag.

* MY STORY *
Shock Start !!!
It began 1st March 2013 at 2am, when I woke with an extremely bad nose bleed.
The nose bleeding continued ALL day until finally after lunch my partner, Campbell took me into the Emergency Department at Grafton Base Hospital. At the hospital I was luckily checked by a Dr who recognised the signs of Kidney failure & arranged tests immediately whilst in emergency. It was confirmed my kidneys had failed & were at less than 10% function. I was transported to Lismore Base Hospital where I was treated & tested.
The Dr's inserted a Permacath - Main Line entry point into my heart - That was really terrifying !!!
I began dialysis. By March 9th 2013 I had already sat through my first 5 dialysis sessions ( very scary ! ) for 4 hours each session.
I was discharged on the 9th March just in time for my 38th Birthday on the 10th. I spent the day relaxing & being grateful for being alive with my family. I am a mother to 3 gorgeous children & step Mum of 2 more teens.

Monday 11th March I began dialysis in Grafton Renal Unit - GBH.
I had no knowledge of Kidney failure.
My kidneys less than 1 year ago ( 2012 ) were healthy according to blood tests.
The DR's cannot explain why my kidneys failed. It has been put down to hypertension/stress/high blood pressure or Nephritis.
I was under extreme pressure for years.
Now, thanks to the DR's & Nurses I am feeling healthier. My blood pressure is controlled.
My stress is reduced.
I continued to go to the Dialysis Unit in Grafton, as I still had the temporary access point in my neck, until I could begin home dialysis.
I have now had a PD operation in September 2013.
The DR put in a Tenkhoff Catheter into my peritoneal cavity for home Peritoneal Dialysis.

We did 2 weeks of PD training in Lismore Base Hospital.
I have been doing PD for almost 2 yrs now & it has been fantastic - keeping me alive.

Although PD does come with lots of downfalls, ie High infection rates, Cannot go swimming etc, must not lift heavy items & be careful of catheter in my tummy.  I had to have another operation to stitch the catheter in place as it moved shortly after having it placed in my peritoneal cavity.  ( The Omentum grabbed hold of my catheter & pulled it out of place. )

I am constantly tired & drained.
Every day is a struggle & I have to push myself OR my poor partner encourages me to keep going.

I need regular iron infusions via IV.
I also have to inject myself weekly with EPREX  to boost my red blood cells.

A miracle would be a Kidney.
I am on the waiting list.
We need to raise money as we have to stay in Brisbane for up to 3 months with our 9 yr old daughter ( possibly need a babysitter )
We need to be close to the PA in Brisbane, QLD.
We need to plan for out of pocket expenses.
Our house mortgage & bills all still need to be paid & we are both disability pensioners.
I am 40 years old. I still have a life to live.
Please,  give if you can afford even $1 - Every bit helps :)

My journey as a Renal Patient has just begun.
But it began with a bang !
I am determined to stay positive, focused & live life to the fullest.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us. We really appreciate every little bit of help we can get, whether you DONATE or SHARE this page please.

We love our adoptee - she adopted us Easter School Holidays this year.
We also need to raise money to board our cat " Custard "  whilst we are away in Brisbane. Poor puddy can't come with us or stay home alone.

Here is an article written about me in our local paper.
I am trying to remain positive & raise awareness of Organ Donation & it's importance.

MOTHER-of-three Miriam Tasker's health has declined for two months to the point where she could not eat.

Countless check-ups and blood tests had revealed nothing and doctors had put it down to stress.

Then she woke up one night with blood streaming from her nose. She tried to block her nose but blood came out of her mouth.

Her partner Campbell Lynne rushed her from their Pillar Valley home to the Grafton emergency department where she finally had a diagnosis, kidney failure, and was put on the list to receive a kidney transplant.

Ms Tasker said even though it all happened in March, 2013, she still thinks she will wake up from a bad dream.

"Your job turns to living," Ms Tasker said.

She went from being an active mother with a stake in an interstate trucking company to just trying to survive.

"I have blood tests once a month," she said. "Every four to six hours I do a round of peritoneal dialysis.

"If I eat something like a banana, my kidneys can't process it and it could be fatal. If I touch my tube in the wrong spot or the cap falls off, I have to drive straight to Lismore.

"Anything could have caused the kidney failure - a spider bite? You name it."

The Red Cross Sydney branch holds her blood type and will tell her when she has to drop everything to go Brisbane for the transplant that would get her old life back.

"I'll have my strength back and I won't have to go on dialysis any more," Ms Tasker said.

"I have to drop everything when I get the call to go to hospital in Brisbane.

"Then I have to stay there for three months in case anything goes wrong."

However, Ms Tasker still has four to seven years of nightmare left before she can expect the call.

Ms Tasker is not alone in waiting for a transplant; one in 1500 people in Australia are waiting for one.

A recent study published in the Medical Journal of Australia said although most people were willing organ donors, low next-of-kin consent rates mean their wishes were not carried out.

"How many healthy organs are buried in the ground every day?" Ms Tasker said.

"I won't see my grandkids without a kidney transplant."
