Midian Farm

If it had happened in America, Midian Farm would be a Hollywood script.

Instead, its legacy is being memorialized through a compelling point-of-view historical Canadian documentary.

Award-winning filmmaker Liz (Cowie) Marshall is in the final stage of completing this unique story. She spent formative years at Midian Farm in the early 1970s, her parents Grainger and Diane, were its leaders.

Please consider donating or sharing this campaign. Thank you in advance.

Hello my name is Patrick Scott. In the mid 70's I was part of a co-operative farm, Midian Farm, which attempted to be a melting point for a handful of sub-urbanites from Toronto who wanted to live and provide for others an alternative lifestyle. Our 'farm' group was led by Grainger and Diane Cowie. Now 45 years later, their daughter is piecing together our collective story in her film "Midian Farm." Resources are thin for this independent project, and so we are asking for your help to bring this important documentary to the screen.  Since Liz started making the film in 2015, it has reunited us all.  As a community we believed in empowerment. Therefore we respect Liz's editorial independence and are excited to participate in this project.

A brief description from the film's website:

From 1971 – 1977 Midian Farm was a back-to-the-land social experiment created by a community of urban baby-boomers from Toronto. Part of the youth counter-culture movement during a period of social and political re-imagining, its utopian vision eventually collapsed. More than four decades later, Liz Marshall unearths Midian Farm to understand and to memorialize a transformative piece of family and Canadian history.

Please Help Liz and her team complete this powerful story with your donation.  She has stated: "everyone who contributes will receive a special thank-you in the credits and a free downloadable file of the film after it is released."
