Melissa's pancreas transplant

Donation protected
Hey everyone!  As many of you know, my sister, Melissa Spades, has diabetes and has had diabetes since she was eighteen months old. She is extremly brittle, and in her case, this illness is life threatening.  In fact, she has been in the hospital a large percentage of her life and I could not count the number of comas her disease has put her in.

Melissa's pancreas does not pump insulin and her sugar levels go dangerously low and dangerously high within seconds.  When her sugars drop or elevate, she goes into what we call a "reaction."  Her reactions can cause unconsciousness, seizures, or both. She can have as many as 3-4 a day and those who have experienced her reactions, know they are the scariest thing EVER!  With that said, my sister has been given a second chance at a new life by being chosen as a recipient for a pancreas transplant at the UW Hospital, Madison.

Here's the problem: she is on disability as an effect of her diabetes.  She is on a very limited, fixed income and she is trying to fund the uninsured portion of the transplant with no extra money.  It has her stressed out and I want to help her.  I love her to the moon and back, and I do not have the means to fund the surgery either.

We were also told on Friday that her medical deductible is $921 per month.  She just doesn't have it.  The transplant coordinator at UW told her she will placed on hold until the hospital transplant board determines that she has additonal funding to cover the  out-of-pocket expenses.  One example is she has to have a dental procedure prior to surgery and her out-of-pocket expense is $180.  She doesn't have it.

I know people get tired of people asking for money for everything under the sun; I do too. Those that know Melissa, know she is the most loving, giving person, who would literally give you her last dime.  If this "Go Fund Me" was for someone else, and my sister read it, she would fund the whole thing if she had the resources.  She is that kind of person.

The punch line: I am asking my friends, family, and FB family to please consider helping Melissa by donating any amount you're comfortable giving.  This surgery is going to change her life.  It is literally life or death.

Any money raised will be placed in an account that will be used for expenses related to her transplant.  We set a goal of raising $25,000; the estimated amount she needs. We are in need of the money as soon as possible.  As soon as the coordinator knows she has an additional funding source, the coordinator will meet with the board, and they ultimately will decide when she will receive the transplant.  This means the world to me, my sister, and the Spades family.  I cannot thank you enough in advance, as I know how hard money is to come by.
