In 2012, I went to South Sudan with my brothers for holiday; we spent two months in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan. During that time, there was a conflict within Dinka tribe in Lake State which is one of the ten states in South Sudan (Agar ethnic). Many young men lost their lives during this conflict including my cousin, who was wounded and hospitalized in Juba Teaching
Hospital.
My brothers and I went to visit him; I was shocked and saddened by what I saw as we entered the hospital compound, people laying on top of the grass or concrete without medical attention or medical staff attendance. When we finally came into the room where my cousin was being treated, I noticed he was shivering, there was no blankets, bed covers, pillows and no mosquito nets. I was furious, I asked why the hospital did not provide these materials and I was told you had to bring your own simply because there were none available.
South Sudan for more than two decades, has been engulfed by war which caused dreadful famine. This famine caused suffering and pain to communities and lead to dreadful diseases such as malaria, cholera, diarrhea and tuberculosis. According to 'South Sudan Humanitarian and Development statics' (SH&DS, 2013), 6.3% of children under two years are fully immunised, 7.4% of households are using improved sanitation and 68% of households have improved drinking water sources (SH&DS, 2013). One of the leading causes of deaths and diseases by 25% is Malaria (SH&DS, 2013. Furthermore, two in every ten people die from malaria due to a lack of mosquito nets in households which only exceeds 66%

For the above reasons, the aim of M.S.A is to raise money to provide and deliver hospital materials, equipment and supplies for Juba Teaching Hospital, located in 'Juba' South Sudan. Not only are beds, pillows, mosquito nets, bed covers and blankets, a necessity to the M.S.A people but good sanitation, improved vaccination and clean water (Fluidisation) are also a priority.
