"Measure of Devotion" is the story of John Burns, Tillie Pierce, Jennie Wade, Elizabeth Thorn, Carrie Sheads, Lloyd Watts and many of the civilians of Gettysburg, Pennslyvania before, during, and after the battle.

ABOUT US

Pulp Productions is an independent film production company based out of Antioch, Illinois. It was founded by Brian Naydol, who has written and directed five independently produced feature films. Measure of Devotion will be the sixth feature film. Our films have been shot all over Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Here’s a look at what we’ve done and what’s to come:

Features:
Until the End of Time (2018)
Tread This Fantasy (2017)
Darkness Has Covered My Light (2016)
The Barlow House (2015)
Victims of Fun (2014)

OUR GOALS

While independent film is a lot tougher than having a studio behind a production, it does have advantages. It gives us the opportunity to tell any story we want to tell, the way we want to tell it. For me, as the writer and director, this isn't about making a dollar, but to tell true stories of American heroes that are rarely discussed and have never been featured in a film and all have very unique stories including John Burns, at 69 he walked to the fight and fought with the Iron Brigade being wounded three times, Jennie Wade, at 20, she was the only civilian killed during the battle, Tillie Pierce, at 15, she fled town only to end up in one of the worst parts of the battlefield and helping the wounded, Carrie Sheads, the 26 year old all girls seminary principle turned her school into a field hospital, Elizabeth Thorn, at six months pregnent, she and her senior father buried over 100 men, Lloyd Watts, an African-American man who was inspired to joing the army by the battle, and so many others.

History is what I am most passionate about and I want to share my passion and inspire others to go out and learn about history and these events. History is so important and if I can influence someone to learn or inspire people to visit Gettysburg or other National Battlefields by seeing this film, that is worth more than anything else to me. Film is about telling great stories and we are building a team of dedicated and talented individuals who share this common goal. These are truly amazing stories about  American patriots and heroes who fought to protect this country, small stories that most don't know that took place during the greatest battle fought on this side of the earth. We are all unbelievably excited about this film, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

WHAT WE NEED

Period pieces are a challenging type of film to make on a micro-budget and cutting corners is not an option to tell a true and accurate story. We want to make an industry standard film using the right equipment and professional people who know their jobs while making sure we are conservative with how we spend production money. We are looking for funding for the following:

Onsite Crew Pay: 24% or $60,000

It takes a lot of good crew people to make a film and we need experienced and professional people to make sure our film is done correctly. Some of the jobs people will work are production manager, assistant production manager, unit manager, production coordinator, first assistant director, location manager, unit publicist, script supervisor, casting director, director of photography, camera operator, first assistant camera, gaffers, grips, stand ins, production sound mixer, boom operator, production designer, graphic artist, set decorator, construction coordinator, propmaker / propmaster, weapons master, costume designer, costume supervisor, costume standby, key make-up artist, make-up artists, hair stylists, and stunt coordinator. It takes a lot of people to get a film of the ground and running and if we want a quality film, we must hire quality people.

Cast Pay: 16% or $40,000

Actors are a very important element for a successful film and having quality actors give great performances is a key to making a successful film. If you don't believe a performance, you won't believe a film. We are exploring a lot of different options. We have opened dialogue with some more established actors who many people will recognize and we will be exploring the many talented actors within the Midwest who can bring their talent to our production.

Post Production Costs: 10% or $25,000
Once the movie has been put on film, it will take several months of post production work with a talented team. This team will include a post-production supervisor, colorist, visual effects artist, special effects supervisor, compositor, sound designer, sound editor, and score recorder/ mixer. These are the people that will make sure the final product is everything we need it to be.

Food: 6% or $15,000
Napoleon once said, “An army marches on its stomach,” and in this case we will be bringing in an army of people, from cast and crew to reenactors, many who are volunteers and we need to take care of everyone as they work on the production, in some cases hundreds of people per day.

Locations: 6% or $15,000
This fund is for location fees and permits to shoot at the locations. We need a place to shoot the battle at, an old town to film at, interiors of homes, any place that already exists that we will need to use.

Camera Rental: 6% or $15,000
A quality camera makes a big difference with what you will see on the screen. We want to be sure the camera we use is an industry standard camera. We are planning to use either the Alexa SXT or Red Weapon to shoot this film on and get the best quality picture we can get. Both are high quality, industry standard cameras to give us the best picture possible.

Lodging: 6% or $15,000
With people working on this film from outside the area, we need to be able to host those people for the time they are on location.

Set Construction: 5% or $12,500
In several instances, we will need to build a few sets, the exterior of John Burns house, battle torn homes, a speakers stand for the Gettysburg Address scenes, anything we need that we cannot find in the real world.

Production Insurance: 4% or $10,000
Insurance is required by the state and by SAG-AFTRA to protect everyone on set. With filming battles and renting equipment as well as filming at certain historical locations, we must have insurance.

Props: 4% or $10,000
This fund is to create and purchase any props or stunt items we may need.

Film Equipment: 4% or $10,000
This fund is for any equipment we may need to purchase or rent. We need to upgrade our sound equipment, we need to acquire the services of a drone and an operator, storage for the footage,

Wardrobe: 4% or $10,000
This fund is dedicated to purchasing supplies for wardrobe we may need.

Transportation: 3% or $7500
These funds are to help pay for cast, crew or extras outside of the area to get to locations.

Fundraising and Promotions: 2% or $5000
We will be holding several fundraisers over the next few months and these funds will help pay for the space to do them at. We will also be appearing at several other events which we will be raising money and this will help fund those events.

Independent film runs on fundraising and donors, which is why we are grateful for every donation no matter how great or small. If you cannot donate, but this film sounds interesting to you, don’t worry! Any form of support will help us achieve our goal. Sharing this campaign, following our Facebook or Instagram, or stopping by our booth at a convention, are all ways you can get involved!
