The Coach Fischer Story
March 2015

Mark Fischer is a warrior - on and off the football field.  When faced with seemingly insurmountable odds, his motto is simply to run through it.  In September of 2012, Coach Fischer was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and given 7 to 8 years to live.  The loving husband, father of two, coach and mentor to his high school family put this motto to the test.  When confronted with his diagnosis, Coach Fischer relied on the very advice he would give his team. "All I know how to do, is to get down in a three point stance and run through it."  That pushing though attitude led Coach Fischer through months of chemotherapy, radiation, and a stem cell transplant.  And in June of 2013, he was declared cancer free.

But in life, as in football, victory is often followed by yet another battle.  Just over a year after his remission, Coach Fischer's cancer returned.  He is currently seeking treatment at the University of Arkansas where they have a specialty hospital for Multiple Myeloma.  Facing a second stem cell transplant with more chemotherapy and radiation, won't stop this defense.  Coach knows just what to do - run right through it!

Twice named Coach of the Year by the associated press, Mark Fischer has a impressive number of wins to his credit.  His dedication to his family and his team is admirable.  Just ask his former player, Josh, who was diagnosed with Leukemia during a previous football season.  A Louisa Lion football tradition, fans would raise their fist in the air on the 3rd down to show unity and encourage the team.  Upon learning of Josh's illness, Coach Fischer started a campaign called Fists up for Josh to show the team's support of their fellow player. When Coach Fischer became sick, the team in turn coined the phrase Fists up for Fischer.

As he puts his energy into fighting off cancer, we are asking you to raise your fist for Coach Fischer.  Mounting medical expenses are weighing heavily on this family.  We are asking you to pray for Mark's health, to lift up his family in this stressful time, and if you feel led to contribute to this man's battle.  Your donations could be a game changer.  FISTS UP!
