MelanieHumphrey Breath of Life Fund
Donation protected
History of Fund:
In 2008, Melanie Humphrey was 41 years old, a nurse at the Dale & Frances Hughes Cancer Center and was diagnosed with an advanced stage lung cancer. Never a smoker, Melanie battled four years of treatment, but ultimately passed in December 2012, leaving behind a loving husband, Craig and their two sons, Tanner, aged 12 and Logan, aged 10. In July 2016, after much thought and preparation Tanner presented the idea to establish a charitable fund to be administered by Pocono Health Foundation. Fundraisers, general donations and pledges sustain the fund year after year.
Fund Specifications:
The purpose of the fund is to minimize the financial and emotional impact of a lung cancer diagnosis and treatment for both the patient and their family. The Melanie Humphrey Breath of Life Fund will provide up to $500 to both male and female patients of the Dale & Frances Hughes Cancer Center for basic living expenses. Basic living expenses will include: rent, food/groceries, gas, child care, utilities, medication and other expenses. In addition to direct patient support, the Melanie Humphrey Breath of Life Fund will also assist with funding necessary to support awareness and education of lung cancer screening, symptoms and prevention.
