Background Information:

We are proud to introduce an opportunity that allows your organization to help the community, grow your business and extend your organization’s reach at the same time. GBDC Entrepreneurship Institute is a nonprofit 501 c (3) organization that strives to build wealth in the community by providing resources to the economic disenfranchised citizens. Emphasis is placed on entrepreneurship as a vehicle to financial independence for youth, homeless, felons and seniors who have aged out of the workforce. Entrepreneurship training is combined with leadership training real world life skills and community resources through strategic alliance partnerships.

Over the past ten years the GBDEI team has delivered programing from a traditional bricks and mortar office. GBDC Entrepreneurship Institute is looking to establish a Mobile Entrepreneurship & Leadership Training Program (M.E.L.T.) that will expand the reach of the organization and its strategic alliance partners in Florida. Programming addresses the state’s need for qualified and skilled talent. M.E.L.T. is a program that provides training, mentoring and business resources to individuals; looking to start or grow a business, develop a career and professional skills.

 Community Need:
There are many deserving organizations that serve the Florida community well. However, there is a segment of the population who are unable to take advantage of the many resources in their community because of lack of transportation, affordable childcare, a support system and financial constraints. The programing provided via the M.E.L.T. Mobil unit is convenient and the majority of the programs are free to the participants. The programs are aimed at reducing the high school dropout rate, reducing unemployment and improving the socio-economic conditions for single parents, youth and small businesses in South Florida communities. We bring the resources to the people without transportation and are most in need!

Unemployment Rate: Palm Beach County: 6.3 %    Martin County: 6.6 %   St. Lucie County: 8.2 %

According to the 2017 homeless Point-in-Time Count:

1,607 individuals and families are homeless on any given day in Palm Beach County.

11.5% increase in homeless individuals from 2015.

57% of homeless were in families.

13% of homeless were 18 to 24 years old.

Central Palm Beach County saw the largest surge.

West Palm Beach had the county’s  largest homeless population at 47 percent, followed by Lake Worth with 14 percent. A rise in homelessness among both young adults and retirees is fueling much of that increase, authorities said.
