Grayson is a free-living, fun-spirited, happy boy. He truly lives by no rules and always wants to have fun.
On Friday 2/24/17 his life would change; My brother and sister-in-law were concerned about some swelling in Grayson's face so they took him to the ER thinking it was just an allergic reaction.
Soon after being admitted into the Pediatric ICU, testing beginning quickly. After doing a CT Scan the doctors found a large and aggressive malignant mass tangled in his esophagus and very close to his heart.
Grayson's recovery is going to be a long road from here. Doctors believe chemotherapy treatments will most likely go on for about two years. He has already shown how strong he is and is staying in positive spirits.
We want to alleviate whatever financial pressure Larry and Vanessa are feeling and will be faced with in the weeks, months, years to come. Funds raised will go towards insurance deductibles and medical costs to help ease the family's financial burden. Asking for help is never easy.. If you cannot help monetarily, please keep Grayson and the Horowitz family in your daily prayers ..thank you so much xoxoxox
So many of you have texted messaged that you love being able to be updated on Grayson's journey I think this will be a great way for everyone to be able to share and stay in touch!
I've met some of the most amazing people already through this journey and would like to continue those friendships... thank you again!
We will be celebrating Graysons birthday this weekend.
He's been putting on some weight which is a good thing (from the steroids) chemo treatments continue, adjusting to this is never easy... #lovegrayson #fkcancer #oursuoerhero
Thank god Grayson's appetite is good , he's been eating like grown man (6 meals yesterday ) . He's learning all about his Xbox , which is his favorite thing to do these days . During the Snow we had some facetime love which was fun! His smile was so bright it warmed my heart ❤️..Grayson told me what he wants me to gets him for his birthday which is coming up quick... little man will be six years old.!!
Yesterday he got Scarlett and her friends off the the bus from school, and he had a nice comfy nap with Annabelle ...Being Home is everything , for everyone
As I view this page I'm in disbelief that we are in this predicament. Why him ? Why us ? There must be a reason in the spiritual/religous sense ? Guess eventually I'll find out. I'm overwhelmed by the concern through texts, voicemails, and from the outpouring of love and support from people in my life and from people I don't even know ?????? Even though you don't here from me your thoughts are recognized. Thanks for your support and wishes. Perhaps before you go to bed at night, you can give me 10 seconds of prayer to send positive energy waves to our boy .......Grayson for strength, comfort, and healing. I am blessed with an amazing wife, beautiful daughter, supportive extended family, friends, and a strong willed, energetic, loving little boy who is adaptive and has ALOT of fight in him. I will keep periodic updates on this site to inform all of his positive progress. Love Larry With Love, Larry
My thoughts.......... I continue to be in disbelief with the amount of care and support in the form of texts, voicemails, hugs, contributions, etc. The tears flow at any given moment but my wife's will is stronger than granite and my daughter's smile is what gives me the strength to get him through this. Thank you to all my family , friends, and all of the special people that I haven't even met. Love Larry
Once again, We want to send a huge thanks out there again for encouraging words and support from aunts, uncles, brother, sister cousins, nieces, nephews, parents, friends, co- workers, etc. His lab results continue to look very good, so we have our fingers crossed. Yesterday, he said, "Mom I want to be a nurse, actually no I want to be a doctor because I'm not funny enough to be a nurse." Ha Ha.....so funny.......They have been really great with him. Thanks Lisa for posting the updates. With Love, Vanessa and Larry
Thoughts.......As this continues thank you everyone for your love ,d support, and amazing offers to help out. I'm not quite sure what lies ahead however all appears to be moving in a positive direction. The first week brought incredible emotion, and now, as many of you know, the mom and dad super power kick into gear, and we have our game face on to take care of business with what needs to be done. All our love, Larry and Vanessa
You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice!...my motto I live by after going through what you guys are going through...praying for all of you and thinking of you all daily!!!...love and prayers to you all!!!..Marcus's mom
Once again..thanks Lisa for the updates. How could it not be nice to be home ? A warm fire, our dog, lots of room, our couch, but we actually felt very guilty leaving the hospital. There were at 3 or 4 couples just like us that were still there in the same predicament.( 4 year olds, 3 olds, etc.) We are going to be in touch with them. We are still in disbelief , but were home and gathering our thoughts, organizing , and getting ready to move forward. Again, a huge thanks to all. Love, Vanessa and Larry
Well ....as Lisa stated these last few days have been tough on all of us.Now it appears that we will be prepping to go home. It is unchartered territory but we will do it. Grayson will get to see his dog, annabelle, and sleep in his own bed. He won't be able to have constant visitors because of the likelihood that his immune system will become depressed. Texts, emails, etc. are always appreciated and we are really in awe with the amount of love and support. I know it won't be easy but we'll do the best we can one day at a time to get our boy back in action. Our Love, Vanessa and Larry
We are sending Grayson positive prayers and light also to his family and his medical team to help bring him through this difficult time ... we pray for his strength through his treatments .. and continued positive thoughts throughout his medical treatment ... keep strong Grayson you're a beautiful soul and everyone is rooting for you lil super hero !!!may God Bless you .... ❤️Jamie , Damien and Jada Rae
Hi.....it has been a real long time since I wrote. Our summer has brought 4...... 3 day visits to the hospital for treatment. Yes it is rough however Grayson has been in an amazing day camp ( Kidsneedmore) and now , camp adventure in shelter island ( 1 week sleepaway also through kidsneedmore)What an amazing group of volunteers. There are no words to describe the experience our kids are getting from this camp. They have grown so much from this and we are grateful. Our biggest celebration for the present is that Gray is doing real well !! Larry and Vanessa
Well, we have not made a comment in a while. Being back home makes it feel better, but going back to O.P. visits reminds us that this is a bit of a tough long road. How much can a parent take ? Well... the answer is "whatever it takes" We know how strong and fiesty he is,... how he always relentlesly would jump on our back and playfight with us . lol...He's doing well they say......he has ALOT of Horowitz fight in him and we plan on not stopping.Positive, positive, positive. Thank you to the hundreds of loving donations, meals, giftcards, to smooth things out for us. New friends, old friends, anonymous, family, we love you all and want to pay it forward . God Bless Love, Vanessa and Larry
