My name is Loren Torres and I am officially a qualified contestant in the upcoming Miss New York USA 2017 pageant.
I'd assume the biggest question(s) you might have is why I am doing this and why it means so much to me. Well, I come from a really small town in upstate New York and I never expected to be a part of something this huge. This pageant is so much more to me than just the vanity that is shown on the surface. It's an opportunity to build a platform that can help me spread positivity and confidence to girls all around me. Two years ago if this opportunity would have appeared in front of me, I would have avoided it at all costs due to my own insecurity. Where I am now with my confidence and happiness is owed almost entirely to female role models both in my personal life and in the limelight who constantly prove that there's no reason to fear being open about your confidence. I want to serve as that role model one day for someone else. Even if it's just one person, I will have achieved my goals. This pageant is my first step to breaking out of my comfort zone.
As a contestant, I have been encouraged to request donations from family, friends, and community businesses and leaders. Which is why I need your help. Participating in this pageant requires a sponsorship fee of $1495. These fees cover the expenses for the entire pageant weekend. The additional $500 goal would assist me with out of pocket costs for the pageant, i.e my gown. The pageant will be held at SUNY Purchase College on January 13-15. The winner of this pageant makes her way to the highly anticipated and FOX televised Miss USA Pageant. The deadline for the sponsorship payment is November 15.
