A Lifeline For Little Timmy
His Mum, Twilight, came to the sanctuary a number of months ago having been rescued from a forest in South Donegal. Within months of her arrival it became evident that she was carrying a foal and the arrival of the 'little one' has been much anticipated.
Joy turned to shock and sadness this morning when Timmy's predicament became evident. Clearly the mares recent trauma has impacted on her unborn foal.
The vet is hopeful that he can gain strength in his little legs and go on to lead a normal life however the cost of treatment will be a huge burden on sanctuary finances.
Could you help provide a lifeline for little Timmy?
Please help him on his way to a happy future.
With a record number of donkeys in our care we are concerned to find our winter feed supplies getting dangerously low. Each year we estimate (as best we can) the number of bales needed when grass growth stops outdoors and the feeding of hay/haylage begins. Once again this winter has seen an unprecedented amount of vulnerable souls arrive at our doors in need of shelter, food and the touch of a loving hand.
Paddock grazing is some months off at this stage and the level of feeding needed has placed a considerable financial burden on sanctuary funds. We are reaching out to our loyal supporters for any help that could be given. No donation is too small. We need to provide enough food for empty tummies until summer grazing can commence. Small bales of hay are currently €5 with the large round bales of hay/haylage costing approx €45/50 each. We are humbled daily by the capacity of these beautiful, gentle creatures to forgive people for the most inhumane treatment. We will do everything in our power to fight for a second chance at life for each and every one. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sending love and hope around the world tonight. From all at DDS❤️
Henry and I are patiently waiting for Santa tonight. Hoping he will bring lots of ginger nuts and carrots! We are all tucked up warm, snug and fed in our stables here at DDS. Sending love across the world tonight. Love Timmy ❤️
Winter is upon us again and this year brings even greater challenges to the sanctuary than in previous years. The fodder/bedding crisis will have a huge effect on us this year with lots of hungry mouths to feed and provide warm bedding for. Please help us reach our goal and enable us to provide the much needed care that our residents need and deserve.
Timmy continues to thrive and lead a normal life with his donkey friends here at the sanctuary. He was gelded (castrated) in early summer as he had reached maturity and he coped well with the procedure making a swift recovery. He celebrated his 2nd birthday in July with a party and many supporters travelled on the day to help him celebrate with cards and good wishes! It was a day that we hardly dared hope for when he was a little foal struggling to walk. He is one brave little ‘man’❤️
Due to an exceptionally long and hard winter followed by a very wet spring, fodder reserves were depleted across the country.
While the heatwave experienced in early summer was welcomed by many people it was yet another blow to the farming community as grass growth was severely restricted. A combination of all these factors has resulted in a severe shortage of hay, straw and haylage.
Available supply is set to be very expensive and will place a huge strain on our financial resources.
Thank you for taking the time to read this Appeal. Every donation will make a difference to these beautiful animals. Your support is very much appreciated.❤️
