My Educational Experience in Peru

Hello! My name is Caroline Wetzel, and this spring break (25th of March to April 2nd) I am hoping to go to Peru. I am a freshman at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Downtown Cincinnati. There, my major is creative writing. I also am a member of several clubs and I am still active in my Girl Scout troop.
I am raising money to visit Peru with a student group from school through a program called Education First (EF.) EF is a program that gives students opportunities to travel while learning about the cultures through an immersive experience. In Peru we will do some sightseeing, including Machupicchu and other popular sites, but also do some community service. Our community service work will consist of helping build a center that provides a safe place for women to weave baskets.
My trip costs $3,500. The funds I raise will go toward the expenses of the EF program. None of the amount I am raising will be spent on personal items, or souvenirs. I am optimistic and believe I can raise my goal of $1,000. It is meaningful to me that I contribute some of the cost, rather than having my parents cover it all. By doing this, I feel like I've helped contribute, instead of it just being given to me.
Outside of GoFundMe, I will be working hard to raise an additional amount of $500 through bake sales, extra chores, babysitting and other fundraisers SCPA has set up for kids going to Peru.
This trip is important to me for many reasons. One of them being is that this trip will be my first time out of the country. I am more than excited to experience and learn about a new culture. Second, I think that the community service will will enrich my view of the world and others especially by providing a new weaving center to a Peruvian community. And finally, I will have a chance to earn money, learn to budget and engage in fundraising in order to make this trip a reality.
These are all great skills for me to have as I plan to travel later in life.
