Let's Hike! (My A.T. Journey 2017)

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

My name is Berkley Aiken. I'm an avid adventurer, lover of family and friends, traveling, music, and all things outdoors.

I'm embarking on quite the journey this year and would love to share it with you. I'm thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, traveling North Bound (or NoBo as the hikers call it) starting March 2017.  That means I'll be walking 2,190 miles, crossing 14 states from Georgia to Maine.

You see... on the Appalachian Trail there is a known term. A term representing those kind souls who go out of their way to lend a helping hand to us crazy folks who voluntarily spend 6 months in the woods. Those people are know as 'Trail Angels.' Like many outdoor enthusiasts, these people embrace the outdoor community full heartedly. They live for helping others. And these people are just like you and me. There's no special initiation or induction ceremony, or even a register of angels past. However, there is a lasting impact these wonderful people have on us.

I will be taking this walk solely as a personal journey. But I didn't want it to just be about me. Yes...I'll have 6 grueling months to think, clear my mind, make memories and experience things I've never experienced before--mainly alone. But this journey is far from lonesome. It's about community. And if you know me...I'm all about community (I'm a glorified hippie!). I wanted to embrace that community on my trip and help support the organization that fuels one of America's greatest long trails. I'm raising money for the ATC! And for every dollar raised, I will donate a portion back to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (www.appalachiantrail.org).

So...will you be a Trail Angel? Not only for my hike, but for those who have hiked before me, with me, and for those who will hike after me?

Let's raise a glass (and a few bucks) to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and to the fearless leaders, hikers, and outdoor lovers who maintain and support this trail.

I vow to push myself harder than I've ever pushed myself before. I vow to accomplish goals and soak in the experience of being off the grid for 4-6 months. I vow to smell the roses and enjoy every last one of the steps it takes me to reach Mt. Katahdin. I vow to tackle this lifelong dream. I vow to finish.

Thank you so much for your support. Be sure to follow along my journey while on the trail: https://baconandbearbells.wordpress.com/

Cheers & Happy Trails!

Much love,

-Berkley "Ten" Aiken
