Hi Everyone,

My name is Berkley Aiken. I'm an avid adventurer, lover of family and friends, traveling, music, and all things outdoors.

I'm embarking on quite the journey this year and would love to share it with you. I'm thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, traveling North Bound (or NoBo as the hikers call it) starting March 2017.  That means I'll be walking 2,190 miles, crossing 14 states from Georgia to Maine.

You see... on the Appalachian Trail there is a known term. A term representing those kind souls who go out of their way to lend a helping hand to us crazy folks who voluntarily spend 6 months in the woods. Those people are know as 'Trail Angels.' Like many outdoor enthusiasts, these people embrace the outdoor community full heartedly. They live for helping others. And these people are just like you and me. There's no special initiation or induction ceremony, or even a register of angels past. However, there is a lasting impact these wonderful people have on us.

I will be taking this walk solely as a personal journey. But I didn't want it to just be about me. Yes...I'll have 6 grueling months to think, clear my mind, make memories and experience things I've never experienced before--mainly alone. But this journey is far from lonesome. It's about community. And if you know me...I'm all about community (I'm a glorified hippie!). I wanted to embrace that community on my trip and help support the organization that fuels one of America's greatest long trails. I'm raising money for the ATC! And for every dollar raised, I will donate a portion back to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy ( www.appalachiantrail.org).

So...will you be a Trail Angel? Not only for my hike, but for those who have hiked before me, with me, and for those who will hike after me?

Let's raise a glass (and a few bucks) to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and to the fearless leaders, hikers, and outdoor lovers who maintain and support this trail.

I vow to push myself harder than I've ever pushed myself before. I vow to accomplish goals and soak in the experience of being off the grid for 4-6 months. I vow to smell the roses and enjoy every last one of the steps it takes me to reach Mt. Katahdin. I vow to tackle this lifelong dream. I vow to finish.

Thank you so much for your support. Be sure to follow along my journey while on the trail: https://baconandbearbells.wordpress.com/

Cheers & Happy Trails!

Much love,

-Berkley "Ten" Aiken

Hi friends!

I'm officially a thru-hiker!! 6 months & 1 day!

My final thoughts, photos, and videos can be found on my blog:

https://baconandbearbells.wordpress.com/2017/09/29/our-final-dance/

I'm forever indebted to each of you for the love and support you've shown me throughout this journey and always. I will never know how to repay you, but know that you all got me up those mountains, kept me safe, motivated, and happy while on trail. And each of you walked this trail with me (Literally! All of your names were handwritten on a bandana that I carried with me the entire trek!). So to each of you...thank you! Thank you for everything!

Much love,
-Ten

Hi wonderful supporters! It's been awhile since I've updated everyone here, so I wanted to send a quick note.

I'm over 1400 miles in and have less than 760 miles to go. I crossed my 4 month mark yesterday. I can't believe it!

I should be crossing into my 10th state today (CT) and am looking forward to hiking through the New England states. Spectacular views, crazy climbs, and awesome terrain await! Onward to Maine!

Shooting for a mid-September summit of Mt. Katahdin. I couldn't do any of this without you all and just wanted to thank each and every one of you for your love and support of this journey. It's been quite the ride and I'm loving every minute!

Be sure to keep up with my trip on my blog. I try to update once a week: www.baconandbearbells.com

Much love from the trail!

Hi friends and family!

Ten here...checking in from the trail. We are 11 days in and having an absolute blast. We crossed off our first state the other day and hit our 100 mile mark yesterday. We have an amazing trail family that all started the same day at Amicalola almost 2 weeks ago, and we've stayed together since. It's incredible the amazing souls you meet on this trail. We just got picked up by my family and all 10 of us will be spending a zero day together in the NC mtns. I turn 30 years old tomorrow and couldn't think of a better group of people to spend it with. This is incredible.

Much love and many thanks to you all for supporting this journey!

Onward to Maine!

Love,
