Brain Aneurysm Recovery

Donation protected
My mother, Julianna Leonardi, never had any medical issues or health problems until one day she experienced what she described as “the worst headache of her life” and was sent to Orange Regional Medical Center on 4/25/18. She was diagnosed with a ruptured brain aneurysm, along with the detection of two other aneurysms. She was experiencing a subarachnoid hemorrhage stroke, AKA a brain bleed, and was immediately rushed to Westchester Medical Center where she had a craniotomy surgery done to clamp the ruptured aneurysm.  She was monitored in the Intensive Care Unit highly sedated for three weeks until her vitals were stable, then was placed in the Step Down Unit for another two weeks.

We are extremely lucky that she survived such a Traumatic Brain Injury. However, her current condition can be described as being in a minimally conscious state, showing minor improvements with time. The next crucial step, rehabilitation therapy, is vital for any possible chance of recovery. We fought the insurance company, but they refuse to pay for the rehab deeming it “medically unnecessary.” My father has spent his whole life working, serving and protecting others, paying his dues into the insurance company, and now when he needs coverage they are denying him. With no other options available he is using his retirement savings to pay out-of-pocket for rehab at Helen Hayes Hospital and unfortunately the costs are more than he can bear. ($1900 per day!) Unfortunately this was not something my parents were financially prepared for, as this was all so sudden and unexpected.

My father has been married to my mother for over 30 years and he would do anything to bring his best friend back home. She is so loved and is the sweetest lady who has always welcomed guests into our home with open arms. I have faith in her recovery, she is one tough cookie and is way too young and way too strong to not be given the opportunity to fight for a second chance at life.

If you can make a donation, it would mean the world to us. We have been told by doctors it is a very long and challenging road to recovery, any funds raised from this are to keep my mom on the right path towards recovering at Helen Hayes for as long as possible. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. ❤️
