A Hero drowns while saving chidren

On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, our world was shattered by the loss of LeeDawn.  She drowned while trying to saving several children who she saw struggling in a local river.  Without hesitation, she jumped in to help get the children to safety. LeeDawn made sure the children were safe but then she was caught into the river current herself. Unfortunately for her loved ones, she was not able to save herself by that point and the river won ending her life all too soon.  Friends and others nearby were able to get her to shore and start CPR until emergency personnel arrived.  Sadly, it was not meant to be and God called LeeDawn home instead.

LeeDawn Mann was only 33 years old and had her whole life ahead of her, but she was not new to giving selflessly to others. LeeDawn also wasn’t new to working hard and taking care of her family or others. In fact, she wanted to do more for others so much that she went became a CNA.  With her CNA designation, she chose to work with elderly patients.  She wanted to make sure they knew how important they were and also receive the best possible care while she was there. She was the type of person who did not hold back or sugarcoat anything. She felt honesty and hard work were extremely important. She knew if you wanted something, you needed to work hard to get it.  She was also always there for others. If you needed help, she would be ready and willing.  These are just a few of the values she was teaching her daughters to ensure they would become amazing young women themselves.

LeeDawn was a hero on so many levels. She not only selflessly sacrificed her life to save these young children, but she also helped as many people as she could during her short life.  She not only cared for people, she also cared for animals.  Recalling a story she recently told – there were these goats she came across while at a location with her husband. The goats’ hooves were overgrown, causing them to have a difficult time walking.  She looked at her husband (who is a furrier) and said, “We cannot leave them like this.” He completely agreed and right away, they both jumped in and made sure the goats’ hooves were cut properly so they were not suffering while trying to walk. This is just a one example of the type of person LeeDawn was, and the type of person her husband still is.  If anything or anyone needed help or was in trouble, help was provided.

LeeDawn leaves behind her loving husband, Lee, and two wonderful daughters, ages 14 & 11.  Lee was the love of her life and her daughters…well, no words are really able to describe the love she had for them. They were absolutely everything to her.  There is no doubt that leaving them behind was the hardest thing she ever had to do.  As difficult as it had to have been for her, she would not have wanted it any other way it had to be someone called home on that tragic day. That was just the type of person she was – selfless, caring and ever so loving – a true hero in every sense of the word.

Tragically, however, her loss leaves her husband now figuring out how to be both the mother, as well as the father. It also leaves him trying to raise these two beautiful girls on his own, with only one income, as well as, the unexpected funeral costs.  The funds being raised from this fundraiser will help to cover these costs and also help ensure her two beautiful young girls will be taken care of just like LeeDawn would have done if she was here and still with them. Note: This is the only fundraising campaign created and approved by her family.

Fly high our amazing, wonderful cousin.  Although you were only with us a short 33 years, you made such an impact on us that will never be forgotten. Rest easy for your job here is done.  It is now time for us to carry on with what still needs to be finished.
