Laura's Kidney Transplant

My name is Dwayne. I am a 12 year Navy veteran and I've been married to my beautiful wife Laura for 28 years. We have a 26 year old son that is currently active duty NAVY (so proud). Laura was a very brittle diabetic when we got married. She ended up having a Pancreas transplant 11 years ago. That was one of the hardest years of our lives. Even harder than when I was working for a SEAL team, taking care of a newborn and caring for a wife who lost her eye sight due to surgery (she fotunately gained sight in her left eye again after two weeks). I think it was all meant to be though, because here we are 25 years later. Anyway, Laura's Pancreas transplant was a blessing and a curse. She traded 2-3 insulin shots a day for a handful of pills 2-3 times a day. It took almost a year to get those meds adjusted. It was a very difficult process. Now, we are facing a kidney transpant due to all those medications. We are so lucky that I have a job with very good medical benefits, but I've had to use a lot of my sick time and vacation to take Laura to Johns Hopkins for visits and follow ups. The kidney transplant is going to be another very difficult time for both of us. It will require more time off work and more visits to Johns Hopkins and overnight stays. We just started the paperwork for the kidney transpant and have our first interview at Hopkins on April 29th. I'm not one to ask for donations. We don't have a fundraising goal, We're just asking for some help to pay for hotels, travel expenses and prescription costs. Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated.
